Hills Reliance panels have been fitted in a lot of Australian homes. When the keypad starts beeping by itself, the panel is almost always raising a system fault, such as a power or battery problem, rather than reporting an intruder.
The steps below help you identify it. If it keeps coming back, call 0421 772 661 and we'll test the panel supply, battery and zones.
Keep the panel enclosure closed. It contains a mains connection and a backup battery, and opening it is likely to trigger a tamper alarm. If anything near the panel or switchboard looks scorched, smells hot or is wet, switch off at the main switch if safe and call an electrician.
Call 000 if there's fire, smoke or injury. For a power outage in your street, call Ausgrid on 13 13 88.
Look for a trouble indication, zone number or text message. The user guide for your keypad explains what it means; Hills' support material is a good place to start if you've lost the manual.
Storms and outages often leave a panel warning about mains loss or a drained battery. Once power returns, the battery may take a while to recharge.
If the panel runs from a plugpack, check it's firmly plugged into a power point that's switched on. If it's hardwired, look at the switchboard for a tripped breaker or safety switch and reset once.
If a particular zone is flagged, look for an open door or window, a loose sensor, or something blocking a detector.
Entering your code at the keypad commonly silences a trouble warning; the steps vary, so follow your user guide. Contact your installer or monitoring company if you don't know your code.
Backup battery at the end of its life. Alarm batteries wear out with age and repeated outages. A panel that beeps after every storm or at random times is often telling you the battery can't pass its test.
Mains supply problem. If the panel isn't getting mains power because of a tripped circuit, a failed plugpack or transformer, or a loose supply connection, it switches to battery and alerts you. That's electrical work we can test and repair.
Tamper and zone wiring. Older homes often have sensor cables run through roof spaces and walls years ago. Renovations, pests and moisture can damage those cables, causing tamper or zone trouble that keeps reappearing.
Communication and programming. Panels that report to monitoring can raise a fault when the phone line or internet connection changes. Programming and monitoring setup are handled by the installer or monitoring company.
Call us if the trouble returns after acknowledging it, the panel has no mains power, a breaker trips on the alarm circuit, or a zone keeps faulting even when doors and windows are closed.
We're licensed for security work (S00014414) and electrical work (332956C), so we can handle the battery, supply and sensor cabling together. See our Hills Reliance alarm installation page.
The panel may have lost mains power or run its battery down during the outage. If it doesn't clear after power has been back for a while, have the battery and supply checked.
The beeping itself isn't, but it means part of the system isn't working properly. Get it fixed so the alarm works when you need it.
Yes. A broken or shorted sensor cable usually shows as a zone or tamper fault. It needs tracing and repair.
No. It's inside the panel enclosure and disconnecting it can trigger tamper and leave the system without backup. Leave it to a licensed installer.
We can test the power, battery and wiring. Access to programming depends on the panel and whether installer codes are available.
