The owner asked for a switchboard upgrade for extra safety. They also wanted a smart meter put in.
On this installation, the smart meter couldn't simply be fitted. To comply, the installation needed SPD and 80 A protection fitted first. That is supply-side work, which has to be done by an accredited Level 2 electrician.
Level 1 and 2 work was arranged through accredited partners. A Level 2 electrician installed the SPD and 80 A protection, so the installation met the requirements for a smart meter.
Getting a smart meter can involve more than the meter itself. Depending on what is already there, the supply side may need changes before the meter can go in, and that work has to be done by an accredited Level 2 electrician. Switchboard work is done to AS/NZS 3000, and new work is certified with a CCEW, as NSW requires.
