Most spas, whether a portable acrylic spa on a deck or an in-ground spa built with a pool, need a dedicated, hard-wired supply. Heaters, pumps and blowers together draw a lot of current for long periods.
Call 0421 772 661 with the spa's model and where it will sit. We quote in writing before any work starts.
Every spa manufacturer specifies the supply it needs: circuit rating, cable size guidance, whether an isolator is required within sight of the spa, and the type of protection. Some spas can be set up to limit how many elements run at once, which changes the circuit needed. Send us the manual early and we'll check it against your switchboard.
The wider rules about zones, bonding and equipment near pools and spas are in our pool and spa electrical requirements guide. Here we focus on the connection itself and how the job runs.
A spa connection has a few parts, and each one is planned before delivery day.
Room for a new circuit, suitable protection and enough supply capacity alongside air-con, cooking and hot water.
A circuit sized to the spa's rating and the length of the run, protected by a safety switch.
A weatherproof isolating switch near the spa, positioned to the manufacturer's and wiring rules' requirements so it can be turned off for servicing.
Underground in conduit across a yard, or concealed under a deck, with the route agreed with your builder or landscaper.
Terminated inside the spa's control box to the manufacturer's instructions, then tested.
The best sequence is to run the circuit and isolator before the spa arrives, so the cable is waiting at the right spot. If the spa is going on a new deck or slab, that means working with the builder or concreter: conduit needs to be in before concrete is poured or decking is laid. Leaving it until afterwards often means a visible cable run or lifting boards.
Once the spa is in position and filled per the supplier's instructions, we make the final connection, test the circuit and the safety switch, and confirm the spa powers up correctly. We then lodge a Certificate of Compliance for Electrical Work.
If the spa has a fault after commissioning, such as an error on its control panel, that's usually a matter for the spa supplier or manufacturer. If it trips the safety switch, we can test the supply to rule out the wiring. Blue Link Electrical is based in Hurlstone Park and connects spas across the Inner West and Sydney.
Some small plug-in spas are designed for it, but most spas need a dedicated hard-wired circuit. Follow the manufacturer's installation manual.
Possibly, if it has no spare space or no safety switch protection. We check before quoting so you're not surprised on delivery day.
Before the spa arrives to run the circuit and isolator, then again once it's in place for the final connection and testing.
Bonding requirements depend on the type of spa and what's around it. Our pool and spa requirements guide explains this.
Faults in the spa's controls, heater or pumps are handled by the supplier or manufacturer. We look after the supply circuit and protection.
