UniFi Protect cameras rely on a chain: the UniFi console running Protect, the network switch (usually supplying PoE), the cable, and the camera. When a camera shows disconnected, one link in that chain has broken.
Go through the checks below. If you can't get it back, call 0421 772 661 and we'll test power and cabling from the switch to the camera.
UniFi gear often lives in a comms cupboard or rack with several powered devices. If that space is hot, smells of burning or has water nearby, switch off at the power point or main switch if it's safe and keep clear. Call 000 for any fire or injury.
Don't open cameras, switches or power supplies, and leave rooftop and eave work to a licensed installer.
If every camera is disconnected, the console running Protect may be off or restarting. Check it has power at the outlet and that its display or status light looks normal.
Make sure the PoE switch is powered and the port for that camera shows link activity. In the UniFi app you can usually see whether the port is supplying PoE.
A new modem, changes by your internet provider, or someone unplugging cables in the cupboard can knock devices off. Check the cables are seated firmly.
Switch off the console and PoE switch at the outlet, wait a short time and switch back on. The network and cameras can take several minutes to fully return.
If the comms cupboard has its own circuit, look at the switchboard for a tripped breaker or safety switch. Reset once only.
PoE budget or port faults. Each switch has a limit on how much PoE power it can supply in total. Adding more cameras, a floodlight or an access point can push it over, and some devices lose power. A failed port has the same effect on a single camera.
Cable problems. A cable run that wasn't tested at install, a connector crushed behind a camera mount, or water getting into an outdoor joint will cause disconnections, often worst in wet or hot weather.
Console, storage or software. If the console's storage fails, or an update is in progress, cameras can appear offline or stop recording. Those are Ubiquiti device issues and are handled through their support.
Power to the rack. Consoles and switches on a cheap power board, or on a circuit shared with heavy appliances, can drop out during a trip or brownout. A dedicated outlet and surge protection make the whole system more stable.
Call us if a port has power but the camera won't come up, cameras disconnect in bad weather, the comms cupboard keeps losing power, or you need extra cable runs or a better power setup for the rack.
We test and certify cable runs, re-terminate damaged connectors, and add dedicated outlets and surge protection for network gear. Our UniFi Protect installation page explains how we set these systems up.
Look at the console and the main PoE switch first. If either has lost power or is restarting, every camera will show disconnected.
Possibly, but a marginal cable or a port near its power limit is more common. Testing the run usually tells us which.
Yes, if the switch's total PoE budget is exceeded. Check the switch's rating against everything it powers, or have us check it.
Usually not. They are normally powered over the network cable from a PoE switch. The switch and console need reliable power.
