Westinghouse cooktops turn up in plenty of Sydney apartments, rentals and new builds. When one stops working, the fix might be as simple as unlocking the controls, or it might need an electrician or the manufacturer's technician.
If you rent, let your agent or landlord know before arranging repairs. Owners and agents can ring us on 0421 772 661.
If there's a burning smell, smoke, a crack across the glass, or water has run into the cabinetry below, switch the cooktop off at the switchboard and stop using it. Call 000 for fire. Don't touch cracked glass on a cooktop that's still powered.
Don't remove the cooktop or open the switchboard. Hard-wired appliances must only be disconnected and reconnected by a licensed electrician.
If the cooktop lights up but ignores your touch, a lock may be on. The Westinghouse user manual for your model explains how to unlock it.
Water, steam or food residue on the touch controls can make them unresponsive or trigger a safety switch-off. Clean them with the cooktop off.
Look for a cooktop isolator switch near the kitchen and make sure it's on.
In apartments, the switchboard may be in a hallway cupboard or near the front door. Look for a tripped breaker or safety switch and reset it once.
If a zone lights but doesn't heat, try a pan that's definitely induction-compatible and suits the zone size.
Tripped or failed protection. Breakers and safety switches trip for a reason, but they can also wear out. If a breaker won't stay on or trips without load, it may need testing or replacement by an electrician.
Connection faults. Heavy cooking loads over years can loosen connections at the isolator or switchboard. The result can be a cooktop that cuts out, works intermittently or loses power completely. We test and repair these.
Apartment-specific supply issues. In unit blocks, the apartment's own switchboard feeds the cooktop, but a problem on the building's supply can affect several appliances at once. If more than the cooktop is out, mention that when you call.
Appliance faults. When the supply checks out and the cooktop still won't work or shows an error, the repair belongs to Westinghouse's service network.
Call an electrician if the cooktop has no power with its breaker on, if anything trips more than once, if there's heat or discolouring at the isolator, or if other kitchen circuits are acting up at the same time.
We work with property managers and owners to test the supply and report clearly, so the right repairer is sent. See our Westinghouse cooktop installation page and our landlord electrician services.
Report it to your agent or landlord. They arrange either an electrician (for supply problems) or the appliance repairer.
Power is reaching it. Check the lock function and that the controls are dry. If it still won't respond, it likely needs appliance service.
Spills over the touch controls can stop them registering. Clean and dry them, then try again.
Induction cooktops normally need a dedicated circuit sized to their rating. The installation manual specifies it.
We repair the electrical supply. Internal faults go to Westinghouse's service network.
