Westinghouse is one of the most familiar appliance names in Australian kitchens, and its induction cooktops are a popular way to move off gas without a premium price tag. We install them with a correctly sized circuit and full testing.

Westinghouse cooktops are a mainstream choice: you'll find them in renovated family homes, investment properties and units right across Sydney. For many owners an induction model is the first step in getting gas out of the house, and that's exactly where the electrical side matters most, because an old gas kitchen often has no suitable cooktop circuit at all.
An induction cooktop draws heavily when several zones run at once. It needs a dedicated circuit from the switchboard, sized from the rating on the appliance and in the Westinghouse installation manual, plus RCD protection. A power point behind the oven isn't a substitute.
Blue Link Electrical is a licensed electrician based in Hurlstone Park, covering the Inner West and Sydney. We wire and connect Westinghouse cooktops you've bought; we aren't a Westinghouse agent, and repairs to the appliance itself go through the manufacturer's service network.
The Westinghouse induction range covers the common 60 cm size and wider options, with different zone layouts and, on some models, bridgeable zones for larger pans. Because Westinghouse is often chosen as a like-for-like replacement, it's worth checking the new cut-out against the old one before you buy. A small difference can mean benchtop work, which is for a cabinetmaker or benchtop installer to do.
On the electrical side, the model's manual lists the current it needs and how it connects. A compact model and a wide one can have quite different requirements, so we confirm against your exact model rather than assuming one size fits all.
Gas kitchens rarely have one. We run a dedicated circuit sized to the cooktop's rating.
Many rentals and older homes still have fuse boards. See signs you need a switchboard upgrade.
The new circuit is RCD protected. That's especially important in rental properties.
A licensed gasfitter caps the old gas supply before the cooktop goes in.
If there's an oven or drawer below, check Westinghouse's clearance and ventilation requirements first.
Most Westinghouse jobs we see are changeovers from gas. We start by checking whether the switchboard can take another circuit and whether the household supply has headroom for an induction cooktop alongside an electric oven and hot water.
We then install the protection and run a new cable from the board to the kitchen, finishing at a proper connection point. In units we work within strata requirements for cable routes through common property.
Once the gasfitter has capped the gas and the benchtop cut-out is right, we connect the Westinghouse cooktop following its manual, set it into the bench and check every zone.
We test the installation to AS/NZS 3000 and issue a Certificate of Compliance for Electrical Work, which landlords can keep with their property records.
Could be the circuit, a connection, moisture or the appliance. See induction cooktop tripping the safety switch.
Check the breaker and safety switch first. Our guide on induction cooktop has no power covers next steps.
Turn the circuit off and get it checked. Loose terminal connections can overheat under induction loads.
Older services can struggle with a full electric kitchen. A switchboard or supply review is needed.
Detailed troubleshooting:
Yes, as the owner or agent. We coordinate access with tenants and provide a Certificate of Compliance for your records.
A gasfitter caps the gas, we install a new dedicated circuit and connect the cooktop, and if the cut-out differs, a benchtop installer adjusts it.
No. Westinghouse induction cooktops can be connected to single-phase homes, which is what most Inner West properties have. The manual shows the connection options.
Magnetic ones. If a magnet sticks to the base, it'll work. Many stainless steel and cast iron pans are fine.
