Electrolux

Electrolux Induction cooktop installation.

Electrolux is a Swedish appliance group with a long presence in Australia. Its induction cooktops sit in the mid-to-upper part of the market, and some models offer features such as linking to a compatible Electrolux rangehood so the extraction responds to the cooktop automatically (Electrolux calls this Hob2Hood).

The electrical requirement doesn't change with the features: an induction cooktop needs its own circuit from the switchboard, sized from the rating in its installation manual, with RCD protection. If you want the rangehood link, the rangehood needs power too, and positioning both together is easiest during a renovation.

Blue Link Electrical is a licensed electrician in Hurlstone Park. We install Electrolux cooktops across the Inner West and Sydney, wiring appliances our customers have bought. We're independent of Electrolux; product warranty and internal repairs are handled through Electrolux.

Know your model

Understanding the range.

Electrolux offers induction cooktops in several widths, including models with bridge or flexible zones and options with built-in power management. The main thing for wiring is the total rating of the model you pick, which the manual and the rating plate state. A wider cooktop usually has more zones and more power, so don't assume the existing circuit is suitable.

If you're interested in the cooktop-to-rangehood link, check that both models support it before you buy. The link itself is wireless between the appliances, but the rangehood still needs a power supply in the right place, typically in the cupboard or canopy above. Benchtop cut-outs and rangehood ducting are for your kitchen installer.

Before we install

What the installation needs.

!

Dedicated cooktop circuit

Sized to the Electrolux rating and the cable route, with its own breaker.

!

RCD or RCBO

Modern protection on the new circuit. Our guide to RCD vs RCBO explains the difference.

!

Rangehood supply

A power point or connection above for the rangehood, especially if you plan to use the cooktop link.

!

Switchboard capacity

Room for new circuits and a supply that can handle cooktop plus oven at dinner time.

!

Gas made safe

On a gas-to-induction swap, a licensed gasfitter caps the gas before we connect.

How it works

How we install it.

Plan the kitchen circuits. We look at the cooktop, oven and rangehood together, check the switchboard, and work out the cable routes. One visit for all three is cheaper than three separate call-outs.

Install the supply. New protection at the board and cable run to the cooktop position, plus the rangehood and oven supplies if needed.

Connect. With the bench cut, we connect the Electrolux cooktop at its terminal block per the manual, seat it and confirm operation. If the rangehood link is being used, we make sure both appliances are powered so you can pair them using the manufacturer's steps.

Test and certify. Testing to AS/NZS 3000 and a NSW Certificate of Compliance for Electrical Work. Take a look at our cooktop and oven installation in Petersham and rangehood installation in Dulwich Hill.

Common problems

Common Electrolux problems.

!

Tripping when several zones run

Could be a circuit or connection fault, or the appliance. See induction cooktop tripping the safety switch.

!

Rangehood not responding

Usually a pairing or settings issue between the appliances, not wiring, once both have power.

!

Cooktop dead

Check the breaker and safety switch. See induction cooktop has no power.

!

Supply struggling

Lights flickering or the main switch tripping when cooking points to a stretched supply or board.

Questions

Electrolux Induction cooktop: common questions.

Do Electrolux induction cooktops need a special plug?

No plug. Full-size induction cooktops are hard-wired on their own circuit, sized to the rating in the manual.

Can you set up the cooktop to rangehood link?

We make sure both appliances are installed and powered correctly. Pairing is done through the appliance settings as described in the Electrolux manuals.

Should the oven and cooktop be on separate circuits?

Usually, yes, with modern induction. It depends on the manuals and your switchboard; we'll explain what's suitable.

Will my aluminium pans work?

No, unless they have a magnetic base. Induction needs cookware a magnet sticks to.

Do you sell Electrolux cooktops?

No. We install appliances you've bought from a retailer. We're a licensed electrician (332956C), not an Electrolux agent.
