Samsung Induction cooktop installation.

Samsung is best known for electronics, and its induction cooktops reflect that, with touch controls, flexible cooking zones on some models and, on certain models, a Virtual Flame feature that projects an LED flame effect onto the pan so you can see the heat level at a glance. Some models also connect to Samsung's SmartThings app.

None of that changes the basics. A Samsung induction cooktop is a hard-wired appliance on a dedicated circuit, sized from the rating on the appliance and the figures in its installation manual. The app features need Wi-Fi; the cooking needs a properly sized cable, the right breaker and RCD protection.

Blue Link Electrical is a licensed electrician based in Hurlstone Park, serving the Inner West and Sydney. We install Samsung cooktops you've bought; we don't sell them and we aren't a Samsung service agent. Internal faults go to Samsung's service network.

Know your model

Features versus wiring.

Samsung's induction range includes different widths and layouts. Flex zones let you join cooking areas for a bigger pan, and the total power available depends on the model. That total rating is what drives the circuit size. Before buying, look up the installation manual and check the supply it needs, the cut-out size and the clearance required underneath.

If you want app control, make sure your Wi-Fi reaches the kitchen. Thick brick walls in older Inner West homes can leave the kitchen in a dead spot; our guide to Wi-Fi dead spots covers the fixes. It's an easy thing to sort while the electrician is already on site.

Before we install

What the installation needs.

!

Dedicated circuit

Its own breaker and cable from the switchboard, sized to the Samsung rating.

!

Room on the board

Space for an RCBO. Full or older boards may need an upgrade.

!

Supply headroom

Induction, oven and air conditioning running together can stretch an older supply.

!

Wi-Fi coverage

Optional, for app features. Not needed to cook.

!

Benchtop and ventilation

Cut-out and under-bench airflow to Samsung's instructions, done by your kitchen installer.

!

Gasfitter if replacing gas

A licensed gasfitter must cap the gas before induction goes in.

How it works

How we install it.

We check your switchboard, main supply and the route to the kitchen, and confirm the Samsung model's requirements from its manual. You get a written quote that separates the circuit work from any switchboard upgrade.

We install the protection and run the new cable, keeping it concealed and correctly supported through the ceiling, wall or subfloor.

When the benchtop is ready and any gas has been capped, we connect the cooktop at its terminal block, set it in place and check each zone, including any flex zones.

We test to AS/NZS 3000 and issue a NSW Certificate of Compliance for Electrical Work. App setup is something you can do afterwards following Samsung's instructions.

Common problems

Common Samsung problems.

!

Safety switch tripping

Check the usual causes in induction cooktop tripping the safety switch.

!

Cooktop won't power up

Look at the breaker first. See induction cooktop has no power.

!

App can't find the cooktop

A Wi-Fi or account issue rather than wiring. Signal strength in the kitchen is the usual culprit.

!

Breaker warm or tripping

A sign of an undersized circuit or a loose connection. Turn it off and have it checked.

Questions

Samsung Induction cooktop: common questions.

Does Virtual Flame need anything special electrically?

No. It's built into the cooktop on models that have it. The cooktop just needs its correctly sized dedicated circuit.

Can a Samsung induction cooktop go on a power point?

Full-size cooktops are hard-wired on their own circuit. The manual states the supply required.

Do I need a new switchboard?

Not always. If your board has space and RCD protection and the supply has headroom, we can add the circuit. Old fuse boards usually need replacing.

Which cookware will work?

Cookware with a magnetic base. If a fridge magnet sticks firmly, you're fine.

Are you licensed and insured?

Yes. NSW Electrical Contractor Licence 332956C, fully insured, with a compliance certificate for every job.
