LG Induction cooktop installation.

LG is a Korean electronics and appliance company, and in many homes the cooktop joins an LG fridge, washer or TV. Some LG appliances work with the ThinQ app, and buyers who already use it often want the kitchen to fit in. That's a convenience feature; the electrical installation is the same disciplined job it is for any induction cooktop.

Induction is efficient and quick, but it's a big load. The cooktop needs its own circuit from the switchboard, with cable, breaker and RCD protection chosen to match the rating stated in the LG installation manual. Older circuits, or kitchens that were gas until now, rarely have that ready to go.

Blue Link Electrical is a licensed electrician based in Hurlstone Park. We install LG cooktops across the Inner West and Sydney, wiring appliances our customers have supplied. We're not connected to LG, and any internal appliance issue is a matter for LG's service network.

Know your model

What matters when choosing.

Compare the size, the number of zones and the total power across the models you're considering. More zones and more width usually mean a higher rating, which affects the circuit we install. The cut-out dimensions also vary, so check them against your existing benchtop if this is a replacement.

If you plan to use app features, think about Wi-Fi in the kitchen. If you're running new cable for the cooktop anyway, it can be a good time to add a data point or improve coverage. Our smart home wiring guide has ideas.

Before we install

What the installation needs.

!

Circuit sized to the rating

From the LG manual and rating plate, with cable suited to the run length.

!

Modern protection

RCD protection on the new circuit, usually an RCBO on a modern board.

!

Switchboard check

Old ceramic fuses and full boards often need attention first. See ceramic fuse replacement.

!

Access for the cable

Roof space, subfloor or wall cavity access between the board and the kitchen.

!

Gas and benchtop trades

Gas capped by a licensed gasfitter; cut-outs by a benchtop installer.

How it works

How we install it.

Assess. We review the LG model's manual and inspect your switchboard and the cable route, then provide a written quote.

Circuit work. New protection at the board and a new cable to the kitchen, terminated at a connection point that lets the cooktop be isolated later.

Fit-off. We connect the cooktop at its terminal block according to the manual, fit it in the bench and run each zone to confirm it heats.

Certify. Testing to AS/NZS 3000 and a Certificate of Compliance for Electrical Work. Our cooktop and oven installation in Petersham shows the kind of kitchen work involved.

Common problems

Common LG problems.

!

Main switch drops at peak times

Your supply or board may need upgrading for an all-electric kitchen.

!

No power to the cooktop

Check the breaker and safety switch. Our guide induction cooktop has no power explains next steps.

!

App setup trouble

Usually Wi-Fi or account related, not an electrical fault.

Questions

LG Induction cooktop: common questions.

Can you hook up my LG induction cooktop to my existing wiring?

Only if the existing circuit is sized and protected for the new cooktop. We check the cable and breaker against the LG manual.

How long does it take?

If a suitable circuit exists, the connection is fairly quick. A new circuit takes longer depending on access. We'll give you a time estimate with the quote.

Do I need to replace my pots?

Only non-magnetic ones. Test with a magnet: if it sticks to the base, the pan will work.

Can you cap my gas line too?

No, that's for a licensed gasfitter. We can coordinate timing so the electrical work follows straight after.

Do you provide a compliance certificate?

Yes, every job gets a NSW Certificate of Compliance for Electrical Work under licence 332956C.
