Axis Communications, from Sweden, is one of the long-standing names in professional network cameras. Axis gear is mostly found in commercial premises, offices and higher-end homes where it's chosen for build quality and integration with other systems.
Ring 0421 772 661 to discuss your site. We handle the cabling, power and mounting side of an Axis installation.
Axis cameras are IP cameras powered over Ethernet, and they're designed to work with video management software rather than only a single bundled recorder. That might be Axis's own software, a compatible recorder, or a third-party platform the business already uses. Axis is closely associated with the ONVIF standard, which helps cameras and software from different makers talk to each other.
This makes Axis a good choice for a small business that wants cameras which fit into a wider security or IT setup, or for a home owner who wants commercial-grade hardware. The installation itself looks similar to any wired IP system: cable, PoE switch, solid mounts and a recorder or server.
Blue Link Electrical is based in Hurlstone Park and works on homes and small commercial sites across the Inner West and Sydney. CCTV installation in NSW is licensed security work, and we hold NSW Security Licence S00014414 as well as Electrical Contractor Licence 332956C.
Axis has a broad catalogue: fixed domes and bullets, pan-tilt-zoom cameras, panoramic and multi-sensor models, plus specialist products. Power needs vary a lot. A small fixed dome may run on standard PoE, while a camera with a heater, motorised zoom or several sensors can need a higher PoE class. The product datasheet lists the PoE class, and the switch must be able to supply it.
The recording side deserves equal thought. Decide early whether you'll use Axis software, a recorder, or an existing platform, and who will maintain it. For a business, that might involve your IT provider. We focus on the physical installation and basic commissioning, and can work alongside whoever manages your network.
Individual network cable runs from each camera to a switch, labelled and tested, following routes that suit the building. See data cabling.
Every switch port must deliver the PoE class the camera needs, and the switch's total budget must cover all cameras.
Switches and recorders need dedicated power in a ventilated space, ideally with a UPS so recording continues through short outages.
Cameras are fixed out of easy reach on solid structure, with sealed entries and tamper-resistant positioning in public-facing areas.
Fields of view should cover your premises. NSW has surveillance laws, and businesses often use signage; get advice if you're unsure what applies.
We start with a site visit to confirm camera positions, mounting surfaces, cable routes and where the switch and recorder will live. For businesses, we also check access times and any building management rules.
Cabling is installed and tested end to end, then cameras are mounted and connected. Outdoor work uses suitable fittings and sealed penetrations.
We bring the cameras online, set basic image settings and connect them to the chosen recorder or software, coordinating with your IT provider where one is involved.
Finally we review each view with you and adjust angles. Any power circuits we add for the comms cupboard are tested to AS/NZS 3000 and certified where required.
Often the switch port doesn't supply the PoE class the camera needs, or the cable run is faulty.
Infrared, heaters or motors draw more power after dark. A switch close to its PoE limit can't keep up.
Usually network settings or credentials rather than wiring, but we check the cable first.
Usually an unsealed cable entry or damaged gland. Resealing protects the camera.
They're mostly used commercially, but they suit homes too if you want commercial-grade hardware and are happy with the extra planning.
They work with Axis software and many third-party recorders and platforms. Choose the recording side before buying cameras.
Yes. We handle cabling, power and mounting, and coordinate with your IT provider on network setup.
Often, if the recorder or software supports them. We check compatibility and switch capacity first.
