Hikvision makes wired IP cameras and network video recorders (NVRs) that are common in Sydney homes and small businesses. We run the cable, mount the cameras, set up the recorder and get the app working on your phone.
Ring 0421 772 661 for a written quote. Tell us how many cameras you want and roughly where, and we'll plan the cable runs from there.
A typical Hikvision system is a set of IP cameras, each connected by a single network cable back to an NVR. That one cable carries both video and power using Power over Ethernet (PoE), so there's no need for a power point next to each camera. The NVR records to an internal hard drive, which means footage stays on your premises rather than relying on a cloud subscription.
Wired systems like this suit people who want reliable continuous recording, several cameras covering a house or shopfront, and no batteries to recharge. The trade-off is installation: cables have to be run through roof spaces, walls or under floors, and that's where most of the work is.
Blue Link Electrical is based in Hurlstone Park and installs CCTV across the Inner West and Sydney. Camera installation in NSW is licensed security work, and we hold NSW Security Licence S00014414 as well as Electrical Contractor Licence 332956C, so the cabling, the power side and the camera setup are all covered by one licensed business.
Hikvision's range is large: turret, dome and bullet cameras, different resolutions and lenses, and models with features such as colour night imaging or built-in microphones. Kits bundle a recorder with several cameras, or you can buy the parts separately. Because the line-up changes often, check the exact specification sheet of the model you're considering rather than relying on a shop label.
Two points matter more than megapixels. First, the NVR needs enough PoE ports (or a separate PoE switch) and enough PoE power for every camera you plan to add. Second, the lens angle decides what you'll actually see: a wide lens covers a yard but shows less detail at the gate. Mixing lens types across a property usually works better than buying all the same camera.
Each camera needs a network cable back to the NVR or switch. We plan routes through the roof space, under floors or in conduit outside to keep cable hidden and protected.
The recorder and any PoE switch need a power point in a ventilated spot, ideally on a circuit that isn't shared with heavy appliances. A surge protector is worth considering.
Cameras go on solid fixing points, with the cable entry sealed and junction boxes where the model calls for them, so water can't track into the wall or the camera.
For viewing away from home, the NVR connects to your router with a cable. We check the router location before the job so we know where the recorder can sit.
Cameras should cover your own entries, driveway and yard. NSW has surveillance laws, so we aim cameras at your property, not into neighbours' windows or yards.
1. Site walk-through. We look at the areas you want covered, the roof or underfloor access, and where the recorder and router are. You get a written quote showing camera positions and cable routes.
2. Cabling and mounting. We run the network cables, fit the cameras to the walls or eaves, seal penetrations and terminate each cable at the NVR or PoE switch.
3. Recorder and app setup. We set up the NVR, hard drive, recording schedule and motion detection zones, replace default passwords, and connect the Hik-Connect app on your phone so you can view live and recorded footage.
4. Handover. We check every camera day and night where possible, adjust angles, and show you how to find and export footage. Our CCTV job in Camperdown shows a typical wired installation.
Often a poor cable termination, a damaged outdoor cable, or a PoE budget that's been exceeded after cameras were added.
Usually a failing or full hard drive, or a recording schedule that was changed. Power interruptions and surges can also corrupt settings.
Infrared reflecting off a nearby eave, wall or spider web. Repositioning the camera or adjusting the angle normally fixes it.
Typically a router change, a new NBN modem or an app login issue rather than an electrical fault. We can recheck the network side.
Detailed troubleshooting:
Not for PoE models. The network cable carries power from the NVR or a PoE switch, so only the recorder needs a power point.
Usually, if there are spare channels and enough PoE capacity. We check the recorder's specifications and the cable routes before quoting.
A Hikvision NVR records to its own hard drive, so local recording doesn't depend on a cloud plan. Check the current app terms for any optional services.
Aim cameras at your own property. Some street will show at a front gate, but avoid pointing directly at neighbours' homes. NSW has surveillance laws, so if you're unsure, get advice.
