Red is an Australian smoke alarm brand known for photoelectric alarms with long-life batteries and wireless interconnection options. We install Red alarms in houses, terraces and rentals across the Inner West and Sydney.

The big practical question with smoke alarms in older Inner West homes is how to link them. Interconnected alarms all sound together, which matters in a two-storey terrace where someone asleep upstairs might not hear an alarm in the downstairs hallway. Running interconnect cable through old ceilings and between floors can be awkward, which is where wireless interconnection is useful.
Red offers both mains-powered alarms and alarms with sealed long-life batteries, and wireless interconnection is available with suitable models. That lets us link alarms between floors, or add an alarm in a new extension, without opening up walls. Check the specific model's documentation for how it connects and what it can link to.
Blue Link Electrical is a licensed electrician based in Hurlstone Park (NSW Contractor Licence 332956C). We handle the hardwired side, plan positions and interconnection, and test the whole system.
Start with whether the alarms need to be hardwired. In many existing homes battery alarms are allowed, while newer homes and significant renovations usually need hardwired, interconnected alarms. The rules vary by the building's age and work done, so read our NSW smoke alarm rules guide, and if you're unsure we'll explain what applies to your home.
If you're mixing hardwired and battery units, or adding wireless links, all alarms in the system should be compatible models designed to talk to each other. Alarms from different brands generally won't interconnect. We plan the whole set rather than adding one alarm at a time.
Alarms placed so they cover sleeping areas and escape paths on every storey.
Mains-powered models need a 240V supply and must be installed by a licensed electrician.
Thick brick walls and floors can affect wireless links. We test every link once installed.
Every alarm in an interconnected system must be compatible with the others.
Kept away from kitchens, bathrooms and air vents that cause false alarms or slow detection.
1. Plan. We look at bedrooms, hallways and stairs and agree on the number and position of alarms.
2. Quote. A written quote showing which alarms are hardwired, which are battery and how they'll link.
3. Install. Hardwired alarms connected with the circuit isolated; wireless links set up according to the manufacturer's instructions.
4. Test. Each alarm tested, and every alarm checked to sound when another is triggered. Hardwired work comes with a CCEW.
Often a backup battery warning or end-of-life signal. See Red smoke alarm chirping.
Wireless setup not completed, incompatible models or range issues through masonry.
Alarms too close to the kitchen or bathroom. Relocation usually solves it.
Failed unit or lost interconnection. Have it checked rather than ignoring it.
Detailed troubleshooting:
With suitable wireless-capable models, yes. We confirm compatibility and test the links on site.
Not for battery-only alarms. You need a licensed electrician for any hardwired alarm.
It will work on its own, but it generally won't interconnect with another brand.
Alarms with sealed batteries are usually replaced as a unit at end of life. Check the label for the replace-by date.
It depends on the property. See our landlord safety checklist and NSW rules guide.
