Wallbox not charging?

Wallbox chargers rely on the myWallbox app, schedules, a connection to your car and a healthy supply circuit. When charging won't start, one of those four links has usually broken.

Try the checks on this page first. If the charger is still not working, call 0421 772 661 for a licensed electrician to test the circuit.

Safety first

Before you do anything.

Stop and call for help if you see scorching, notice a burning smell, find the cable damaged or see water around the charger. Turn the power off at the main switch if you can do it safely. Call 000 if there's a fire or anyone has received a shock.

Never remove the Wallbox cover or the switchboard cover to investigate. The checks below are safe to do from the outside.

Quick checks

Safe things you can check yourself.

!

Check the app and schedules

Open the myWallbox app and look for an active schedule, a paused session, or the charger being locked. A schedule set for off-peak hours will stop charging until that time arrives.

!

Is the charger locked?

Wallbox chargers can be locked so only authorised users can start a charge. If it's locked, unlock it in the app (or with the method set up for your model) and try again.

!

Look at the status light

The charger's light changes when it's ready, charging, waiting or in fault. Check what the current colour means in Wallbox's manual or app; don't assume.

!

Check the switchboard

Find the breaker or safety switch for the charger. If it has tripped, reset it once. If it trips again, leave it off.

!

Reconnect the car

Unplug, check the car's charge port and settings (including any charge limit or schedule in the car itself), then plug in again firmly.

Causes

What usually causes it.

App, network or schedule. Wallbox chargers do a lot through their app. A lost Wi-Fi or Bluetooth connection, an old schedule, or a firmware update in progress can all leave the charger waiting. These aren't electrical faults; Wallbox's support can help if the app side won't behave.

Load management settings. Where a Wallbox has been set up with load management to stop the house exceeding its supply, a wrongly placed or disconnected meter, or a setting that's too conservative, can throttle charging to nothing. Checking the meter and its wiring at the switchboard is a job for an electrician.

Supply and protection. A breaker or RCD that trips, a loose termination, or an isolator left off will stop the charger. If the unit is completely dark while everything else in the house has power, the circuit is the first place to look.

Hardware faults. When the supply and settings are right and the charger still shows a fault, the issue is inside the unit (or occasionally the car). Wallbox's warranty process covers the charger; we can confirm the installation is sound before you contact them.

When to call

When it needs an electrician.

Call a licensed electrician if the charger has no power at all, if a breaker or safety switch keeps tripping, if load management seems to be cutting charging even when the house is quiet, or if you see any heat marks.

We test the dedicated circuit, protection, terminations and any load management meter, then tell you clearly whether the fix is ours or the manufacturer's. Read more on our Wallbox installation page.

Questions

Common questions

My Wallbox shows it's connected but won't charge. What's wrong?

Usually a schedule, a lock, or the car's own charge settings. Check the app and the car before assuming a fault.

Does the Wallbox need Wi-Fi to charge?

Many Wallbox chargers can charge without an internet connection, but schedules and remote control rely on the app. If a connection drop coincides with the problem, check how your unit is configured.

Why is my Wallbox charging so slowly?

The configured current, load management limiting it, or the car's onboard charger can all cap speed. A sudden drop with no settings changed is worth having checked.

The breaker trips when the Wallbox starts. Is that the charger?

It could be the charger, the car or the wiring. Leave it off and have the circuit tested so the right part gets fixed.

Can you fix the Wallbox itself?

We fix the installation: circuit, protection, cable and metering. Faults inside the charger go through Wallbox's support and warranty.
