Aiphone is a Japanese intercom maker with a long reputation for durable systems, and its units are found in plenty of Sydney homes, apartment blocks and offices. We install new Aiphone systems and replace or extend older ones.

Aiphone has been making intercoms for decades and is known for equipment that keeps working for a long time. That's why we often meet older Aiphone audio handsets still in service in Inner West houses and blocks of flats, alongside newer video systems.
The range runs from simple audio and video kits for houses, through to IP-based and multi-tenant systems for buildings and commercial entries. Aiphone suits people who want something reliable that does its core job well: see who's there, talk to them and open the door.
We're Blue Link Electrical, a licensed electrician based in Hurlstone Park, holding NSW Electrical Contractor Licence 332956C and NSW Security Licence S00014414 for security work such as intercoms. We work on Aiphone systems across the Inner West and greater Sydney.
Older Aiphone systems are usually wired, with their own cabling between the door station and handsets. When upgrading from audio to video, the first question is whether the existing cable can carry the new system; some kits are designed for minimal conductors, while others need new cable. We test what's in the wall before recommending anything.
For apartment buildings, Aiphone's multi-tenant systems involve a lobby panel, apartment stations and sometimes a guard or management station. Replacing these is a building-wide project, so owners corporations should plan for access to every apartment and agreement on how residents will be added and removed.
Old intercom cable is tested end to end. Corroded joints and rodent damage are common in older buildings.
Conventional Aiphone systems use a dedicated power supply; IP versions use PoE. Either needs a reliable mains source.
An electric strike or lock, matched to the door and frame, wired with suitable power for the release.
Weather exposure, wall material and accessibility all affect how and where the door station is fixed.
Usually where the old handset was, but now is a good time to move it somewhere more useful.
Common-property work in strata blocks needs owners corporation approval before installation.
1. Identify and survey. We identify the existing system, test the cabling and check the door hardware, then quote either a like-for-like replacement or an upgrade.
2. Prepare. Where needed, new cable is run, the power supply location sorted and the strike fitted or adjusted to the door.
3. Install. We mount the door station and indoor stations, connect the power supply and door release, and configure any IP or multi-tenant settings.
4. Test and hand over. Audio, video, door release and relocking are tested at every station, and electrical work is tested and certified where required. See our intercom guide for more.
A failed power supply, a loose connection or a damaged cable. See intercom no power.
Corroded terminals or old cable picking up interference. Cleaning terminations or recabling usually fixes it.
Strike voltage drop on a long run, a worn strike or a door pushing against it. We measure under load.
Usually cable or the station in that apartment, not the whole system. We isolate the fault before replacing anything.
Usually. Whether we can reuse the existing cable depends on its condition and the new kit's requirements.
Often power supplies, strikes and cabling faults can be repaired. Internal faults in a station usually mean replacing that unit.
Some newer Aiphone systems support app or mobile answering. Older wired systems don't.
Yes, we survey the building and quote for the owners corporation. Access to each apartment needs to be arranged.
