Hikvision is best known for security cameras, and its video intercoms are a popular add-on for homes that already run Hikvision CCTV. We install Hikvision door stations, indoor monitors and the door hardware that goes with them.

Hikvision's intercom range covers villa (house) door stations, apartment entry panels and indoor monitors. Depending on the kit, systems are either IP-based over network cable or two-wire, where power and signal share a single pair of conductors. Both have their place: IP is flexible and common in new work, while two-wire can be useful when replacing an older intercom over existing cable.
The main draw for many customers is integration. If your cameras and recorder are already Hikvision, the intercom can sit in the same ecosystem and app, so door calls and camera viewing are in one place. That's convenient, as long as the network and app are set up properly.
Blue Link Electrical is a licensed electrician based in Hurlstone Park. We hold NSW Security Licence S00014414, which covers CCTV and other security work, and Electrical Contractor Licence 332956C. We install intercoms and cameras across the Inner West and Sydney, including kits you've bought yourself.
IP kits use a data cable to each device, typically with PoE. They're the better choice for new cabling, larger homes with several monitors, or where you want the intercom on the same network as cameras. Two-wire kits use a two-conductor bus and a distributor or power supply, which can make retrofitting easier where an old intercom cable already runs from the gate to the house. We'll test any existing cable before relying on it.
Check that the door station, monitor and any recorder are compatible with each other and with the app version you plan to use. Mixing product generations can cause headaches, so it pays to confirm compatibility before buying.
Data cable for IP kits, or a suitable two-wire run. Long front gardens may need a trench or conduit along a fence line.
PoE switch for IP systems, or the kit's power supply for two-wire. A power point near the network gear is often needed.
An electric strike, magnetic lock or gate motor input wired to the door station relay, with its own appropriate supply.
Near the main living area or entry, with cable access through the wall.
Remote answering and CCTV integration need a stable network and router settings sorted. See data cabling.
If linking to CCTV, plan which cameras show alongside the intercom call.
1. Plan. We look at the entry, existing cabling, current cameras and the network, decide between IP and two-wire, and give you a written quote.
2. Cable and power. New cabling or conduit runs to the door station and monitors; power for the PoE switch or two-wire supply and door hardware is installed.
3. Fit and link. We mount the door station and monitors, configure them on the network, link to your recorder or app, and set door release timing.
4. Test. Calls to monitors and phones, door release, video quality day and night, and app notifications are all checked. Our security camera guide covers CCTV planning.
PoE switch, injector, two-wire power supply or cable faults. See intercom no power.
Commonly the router, account or phone settings rather than the hardware. We check the device is online first.
The relay may work but the gate motor input or lock wiring is wrong, or the lock's supply has failed.
Glare from a porch light directly behind the visitor, or infrared reflecting off a nearby wall. Lighting changes help.
Usually, if the models are compatible. Calls and camera views can then be managed in the same app.
Possibly, with a two-wire kit, if the cable tests sound. Otherwise new cable or conduit is needed.
The door station relay can trigger a gate controller or electric lock, provided the gate hardware supports it.
With the device online and the app set up, yes. It depends on your internet connection.
