Martec is an Australian brand that makes ceiling fans as well as bathroom exhaust and heating products. Its fan range spans everyday AC fans, DC models and fans with LED lights.

A lot of the Martec fans we're asked about are replacements: an old fan that's noisy, wobbly or simply tired, swapped for something quieter with a light. A replacement is often straightforward, but it is the right time to check the old fixing, because brackets from decades ago were sometimes screwed into whatever was handy.
New positions take more work. If the room only has a light, the fan may be able to use that point, or we may need a new cable run and a new switch or control. Either way the bracket must be fixed to timber in the ceiling structure.
Blue Link Electrical is a licensed electrician based in Hurlstone Park (NSW Contractor Licence 332956C), installing Martec fans across the Inner West and Sydney. We install the fan you've bought and wire it to the manufacturer's instructions. We're independent of Martec, so warranty on the product is through them or your retailer.
Start with the motor type. AC fans are commonly paired with a wall speed controller; DC fans are generally quieter and more efficient and usually come with a remote, and sometimes a matched wall control. They are not interchangeable, so if you are replacing an AC fan with a DC one, the old speed controller usually comes off the wall. The manual for your model lists the compatible controls.
Then think about where it's going. Federation and inter-war homes around the Inner West often have ceilings higher than a modern house, so a longer down rod can bring the blades down to where they do some good. For covered verandahs and outdoor rooms, Martec offers fans intended for outdoor or damp areas on some models; check the rating before you buy, and keep indoor fans indoors.
On a replacement we inspect the old fixing; on a new position we fix into a joist or add a noggin.

Usually the lighting circuit, with RCD protection. We check it isn't already loaded up with too much.

1. Inspect. We look at the existing fan or light, the switch, the roof space and the ceiling height, then quote in writing.
2. Remove and make safe. The old fitting comes down, the cable is checked, and the bracket is fixed securely into timber.
3. Fit the Martec. We assemble the fan, connect it and its control to the manufacturer's instructions, and fit the light if it has one.
4. Test. Every speed, reverse and the light are tested, the circuit is tested to AS/NZS 3000, and you receive a Certificate of Compliance for Electrical Work where required.
The fan may hum, behave erratically or not run. The control must suit the motor type.
Common with incompatible controllers or dimmers on AC fans. See ceiling fan humming noise.
Loose fixings, unbalanced blades or a weak mount. See ceiling fan wobbling.
Batteries or pairing first, then the supply. See ceiling fan remote not working.
Yes. We remove the old fan, check the fixing and wiring, and install the new one. If the old control doesn't suit the new motor, we change it.
Some Martec fans are designed for outdoor or damp areas. Check the specific model's rating before choosing one for a verandah or alfresco area.
Sometimes. A DC fan with a remote may need only a supply, while a fan with a wall control needs the right cabling to the switch. We'll explain at the quote.
Yes, with a longer rod if one is available for the model, and solid fixing to structure. Very high ceilings may need scaffolding or a tower.
