Fanco

Fanco Ceiling fan installation.

Many customers install fans in several rooms at once, often as a cheaper way to stay comfortable than running air conditioning all summer. Fanco's range has both AC and DC models, with and without lights, so it's common to end up with a mix: a DC fan with a remote in the bedroom, a wall-controlled fan in the living room, and an outdoor-rated fan on the deck.

Doing several fans in one visit is efficient, but every one still needs the same care: fixed into timber, on a protected circuit, with a control that suits the motor.

Blue Link Electrical is a licensed electrician based in Hurlstone Park (NSW Contractor Licence 332956C). We install Fanco fans you've bought, and test each one before we finish. We're not a Fanco agent; product warranty is handled by the manufacturer.

Know your model

Match the fan to each room.

AC fans are simple and pair with a wall speed controller. DC fans are typically quieter and more efficient, with more speeds, and are usually run by a remote or a dedicated wall control. If you have a mix of both, keep in mind that the controls aren't swappable between them. Check each model's manual for the controls it supports, and decide early whether you want a light in each fan, because adding one later isn't always possible.

For outdoor areas, Fanco has models designed for outdoor use; check the rating for the location you have in mind, whether it's a covered verandah or a more exposed alfresco area. High ceilings in older Inner West homes may need a longer rod, and very tall raked ceilings can need an angled mount if the model allows it. If you plan to add fans in several bedrooms, ask us to look at the switchboard and circuits at the same time.

Before we install

What the installation needs.

!

Fixed to structure

Every fan bracket goes into a joist or a noggin we add in the roof space.

!

Right control per fan

AC speed controllers for AC fans; remotes or matched wall controls for DC fans.

!

Circuit capacity

Fans draw little power, but we check the lighting circuits and RCD protection when several are added.

!

Outdoor suitability

Outdoor-rated fans only outside, with weatherproof switches and suitable cabling.

!

Ceiling height and pitch

Rod length for high ceilings; check the manual if the ceiling is raked.

How it works

How we install it.

1. Plan. We walk through each room with you, check the roof space and switches, and give you one written quote for the whole job.

2. Rough-in. We fix brackets to timber and run any new cables for fans in new positions or separate fan and light switching.

3. Fit-off. Each fan is assembled and connected to Fanco's instructions, and controls are fitted or remotes paired.

4. Test. We test every fan at every speed, check balance, test the circuits to AS/NZS 3000 and issue a Certificate of Compliance for Electrical Work where required.

Common problems

Common Fanco problems.

!

Humming from an AC fan

Often an incompatible controller. See ceiling fan humming noise.

!

Wobble

Unbalanced blades or a loose bracket. See ceiling fan wobbling.

!

Remote stopped working

Usually batteries or pairing. See ceiling fan remote not working.

!

Outdoor fan tripping

Moisture in outdoor connections can trip the safety switch. See power tripping when it rains.

Questions

Fanco Ceiling fan: common questions.

Can you install several Fanco fans in one visit?

Yes. It's often the most efficient way, and we check the circuits and switchboard for all of them together.

Are Fanco fans suitable outdoors?

Some models are designed for outdoor use. Check the rating for your space, and the circuit must be RCD protected.

Does Fanco make exhaust fans too?

Yes. See our Fanco exhaust fan installation page.

Can a fan go on a raked ceiling?

Sometimes, if the model supports an angled mount. Check the manual; we'll confirm the fixing on site.
