We installed a new IXL 3-in-1 unit in a Croydon Park bathroom. To make the heat lamps, light and fan work separately, we ran extra switch wires in new surface conduit down to the switch.

A 3-in-1 unit has heat lamps, a light and an exhaust fan. Each one needs its own switch wire to be controlled on its own. Many existing bathrooms aren't wired for that, so without extra wiring some functions end up forced to come on together.
We installed a new IXL 3-in-1 on the bathroom ceiling. The unit has two heat lamps, a centre light and an exhaust fan. To give it separate control, we ran extra switch wires from the ceiling down to the switch position.
The new wires were run in grey surface-mounted conduit, fixed down the wall beside the door frame to the switch.
Heat lamps draw a lot more power than the light or fan, so it helps to be able to use them only when you need them. A 3-in-1 that runs everything off a single switch wastes energy and can make the room uncomfortable. Before quoting, we check how the existing switch is wired and whether new switch wires can go through the wall cavity or need to run in conduit. All work is done to AS/NZS 3000.
For more on fans and heaters, see our exhaust fan installation page, the IXL Tastic installation guide, and 3-in-1 heaters vs exhaust fans. We work right across Croydon Park and nearby suburbs.

Usually because there aren't enough switch wires between the unit and the switch, so several functions have to share one. Running extra switch wires fixes that.
Sometimes they can go through the wall cavity. They can also be run in surface-mounted conduit, as on this job.
It combines heat lamps, a light and an exhaust fan in one ceiling unit, so the bathroom gets warmth, light and ventilation from one fitting.
Often, yes. We check the ceiling space, the switching and the ducting first, so the new unit can be wired and vented properly.
