IXL Tastic is the name most Australians think of for a bathroom 3-in-1: heat lamps, an exhaust fan and a light in one ceiling unit. We install and replace them across the Inner West and Sydney.
Ring 0421 772 661 for a written quote. A photo of the existing unit, the switch plate and your switchboard helps.
A Tastic combines three jobs in one fitting, which is why it needs more thought than a plain exhaust fan. The heat lamps draw a lot more power than the fan or light, so the unit needs a circuit that can carry that load, and each function is normally switched separately, so the switch plate on the wall has several switches wired back to the unit.
Many Inner West bathrooms still have an older Tastic, sometimes on wiring from a previous renovation. Replacing it is a good time to check the cabling, the circuit it's on, the safety switch protection, and where the exhaust air is actually going.
Blue Link Electrical is a licensed electrician based in Hurlstone Park (NSW Contractor Licence 332956C). We install IXL Tastic units you've bought and wire them to the manufacturer's instructions. We're not an IXL agent; product warranty is through the manufacturer.
Tastic units come in different configurations, including the number of heat lamps and the type of light, and in sizes to suit different ceiling openings. If you're replacing an old unit, measure the existing cut-out in the ceiling and compare it with the new unit's installation dimensions: a mismatch can mean patching or re-cutting the plaster. Check the rating plate or manual for the total load so we can confirm the circuit is suitable.
Think about ventilation too. A 3-in-1's fan removes steam, and that moist air should go somewhere sensible. Ducting it to the outside through a wall, eave or roof vent is generally the better option; simply blowing it into the roof space can leave moisture to settle on timbers and insulation. If you shower for long stretches, ask whether a timer on the fan suits your setup so it runs on after you leave.
Heat lamps add significant load. We check the circuit and cable can carry the whole unit, and may run a new circuit if not.
Heat, fan and light are usually on separate switches, which means multi-core cabling from the switch plate to the unit.
Bathroom circuits must be protected by an RCD. Older boards may need one added.
The unit needs the right-sized opening and support, clear of joists and away from insulation as the manual specifies.
A duct run to an outside vent where practical, rather than discharging into the roof space.
The unit and switches must be positioned to meet the wet-area rules in AS/NZS 3000.
1. Check the room and board. We look at the existing unit or ceiling, roof space, switch position and switchboard, then quote in writing.
2. Circuit and cabling. We run or upgrade the supply as needed and install the cabling for separate heat, fan and light switching.
3. Fit the unit. We cut or adapt the ceiling opening, mount the Tastic, connect it and fit the duct to the fan outlet, run to the outside vent where the job includes it.
4. Test and certify. We test every function and the safety switch, test the installation to AS/NZS 3000 and issue a Certificate of Compliance for Electrical Work.
A blown lamp is the most common cause, but wiring and switch faults happen too. See IXL Tastic heat lamp not working.
Moisture getting into the unit or cabling, or a failing component. See exhaust fan tripping the safety switch.
Often no duct, a crushed duct or discharge into the roof space. See bathroom exhaust fan not working.
Adding a 3-in-1 to a shared lighting circuit on old wiring can cause trips or overheating. We check before we install.
Detailed troubleshooting:
No. It's hard-wired electrical work in a wet area and needs a licensed electrician in NSW.
Not always, but the heat lamps add significant load. We check the circuit against the unit's rating and advise if a new one is needed.
Where practical, yes. Ducting moist air outside avoids leaving it in the roof space.
Sometimes. Compare the cut-out size in the installation manual with your current opening; we can patch or re-cut if needed.
