Risco makes both wireless-focused systems and hybrid panels that take wired and wireless detectors together. Its products are designed to connect to Risco's cloud service and app, so the phone experience is a central part of the system rather than an afterthought.
A wireless Risco setup can suit renters or apartment owners who want minimal drilling, while a hybrid panel suits a house where most rooms can be cabled through the roof. The decision is less about the brand and more about your building: how easy it is to run cable, and how much you mind replacing detector batteries.
Blue Link Electrical is a licensed electrician based in Hurlstone Park. We hold NSW Security Licence S00014414 for alarm installation and Electrical Contractor Licence 332956C, and we work across the Inner West and greater Sydney.
Risco's wireless systems centre on a main unit that talks by radio to detectors, keypads and sirens. They're quicker to install and easier to move, but every device runs on batteries. Its hybrid panels sit in a conventional enclosure with wired zones, and can add wireless devices through a receiver module. Check the zone capacity, wireless support and communication options of the exact panel you're considering.
The app and remote features depend on the panel being connected through a network cable, Wi-Fi or a mobile communicator. If your internet drops out often, it's worth thinking about a mobile backup path for notifications. We'll explain the options; the ongoing service plan, if any, is between you and the provider.
The panel or main unit needs reliable mains power and an internal backup battery to keep working through an outage.
For app control, a stable network connection at the panel. A cabled data point is more dependable than Wi-Fi at the edge of range.
Wireless detectors are signal-tested in place before fixing, especially through brick walls and between floors.
In a hybrid setup, cabling the easy rooms cuts down on batteries to look after over the years.
Even if you mainly use the app, a keypad at the door is useful for guests, cleaners and when your phone is flat.
In apartments, check by-laws before mounting an external siren or drilling common walls.
1. Survey. We look at the building, decide between wireless and hybrid, and plan detector, keypad and siren positions. A written quote follows.
2. Install. We cable wired zones through ceilings, mount the panel and power supply, fit the battery and place wireless devices after confirming signal strength.
3. Connect and program. Zones, delays, partial arming and users are set, and the panel is connected to your network and registered for app use with you.
4. Prove it works. Walk test every detector, sound the siren, confirm battery backup and check that app notifications arrive. Our home alarm guide covers the bigger decisions.
Usually the router, Wi-Fi password or internet service, not the alarm. A cabled connection or mobile backup reduces this.
Either a wireless detector battery or the panel's backup battery. The keypad or app normally tells you which.
Signal loss from a moved device, a new metal fixture nearby or a failing detector. We re-test and reposition or replace.
Check the switchboard for a tripped circuit; see alarm panel no power.
It can be, because it needs far less drilling and cabling. Check with your landlord before installing any alarm, and keep in mind detector batteries need replacing.
The alarm works locally without it, but app control and remote notifications need the panel connected.
Some setups support cameras through Risco's platform. We'll check compatibility. For general CCTV, see our camera installation guide.
No. We install the system; monitoring is offered by monitoring companies.
