Test and tag is the routine inspection and electrical testing of plug-in equipment: kettles, extension leads, power boards, tools, computers and the like. Each item is checked, tested, given a dated tag and written into a register so you can show what was done and when.
We test and tag for offices, shops, salons, cafes, studios and rental properties, mostly in the Inner West and across Sydney. Ring 0421 772 661 with a rough count of items and we will arrange a time.
In NSW, a business has a duty to manage the risks from electrical equipment used at work, and testing and tagging to AS/NZS 3760 is the common way to show that. Some workplaces, such as construction sites and hire businesses, have stricter requirements. Landlords and property managers also use it for appliances supplied with a rental.
How often equipment needs testing depends on the environment. Our guide to the NSW test and tag rules explains intervals and who can do the work; this page is about booking the service.
We work around your business hours and test items one at a time so only a little equipment is out of use at once.
Plugs, cords, casings and strain relief checked for damage before any test.
Earth continuity, insulation resistance and polarity tested where they apply to the item.
Each passing item gets a dated tag; everything goes into a register you keep.
Anything that fails is tagged out of service and set aside so nobody uses it, and we tell you why.
Sometimes a run of failed items points to a fault in the installation rather than the equipment, such as a damaged power point or a circuit tripping its safety switch. Because we are licensed electricians, we can investigate and repair the fixed wiring too, test it to AS/NZS 3000 and issue a Certificate of Compliance for Electrical Work where needed. Safety switches can be push-button tested on the same visit.
It depends on the environment. Construction and hire equipment needs testing far more often than office equipment. Our NSW test and tag guide covers the common intervals.
