Whether it's an Atto 3, Dolphin, Seal or one of BYD's plug-in hybrids, a wall charger on its own circuit makes home charging simpler and quicker. We install them across the Inner West and Sydney.
Ring 0421 772 661 for a written quote. Tell us your BYD model and send a photo of your switchboard.
For many households a BYD is their first electric car, and the first question is usually whether they need a wall charger at all. The portable charging cable that plugs into a power point does work, but it's slow, and for a car that's used every day it can struggle to put back what you used. A dedicated wall charger fixes that and takes the strain off your general power circuits.
BYD's Australian range uses the standard Type 2 connector for AC charging, so you aren't locked into any one charger brand. That gives you freedom to pick a charger on features that matter to you: a fixed cable or a socket, app control, solar charging, or simply a reliable unit at a sensible price.
Blue Link Electrical is a licensed electrician based in Hurlstone Park (NSW Contractor Licence 332956C). We're independent and not connected to BYD. We check your switchboard and supply, run the new circuit, install the charger and test it with your car on the day.
BYD's battery EVs, such as the Atto 3, Dolphin and Seal, have larger batteries and benefit most from a wall charger. The plug-in hybrids, like the Sealion 6 and the Shark ute, carry smaller batteries, so a full charge takes less energy. Some PHEV owners are happy with a portable cable on a properly installed dedicated outlet, and we can quote either option.
AC charging speed is capped by the car's onboard charger, and that varies between BYD models and variants. Check your car's onboard charger rating in the owner's manual before deciding whether a three-phase charger is worth it. If your BYD only charges on a single phase, a single-phase charger will do the same job for less money.
Run from the switchboard with cable sized for the load and the distance to where you park.
We confirm there's space and that the board is in good condition. Old fuse boards are best replaced; see signs you need a switchboard upgrade.
EV chargers need the right type of earth leakage protection, either built into the charger or at the switchboard. We follow the charger's manual.
BYD models don't all put the charge port in the same place, so we check your car and how you park before choosing the mounting spot.
Charging overnight alongside air conditioning, a pool pump or electric hot water can push an older supply hard. We look at the whole picture.
1. Quote. We look at photos or visit, check the switchboard and parking area, and give you a written quote with the charger position and cable route marked out.
2. Wiring. The new circuit and protection go in at the switchboard, and the cable is run neatly to the charger, concealed where the building allows it.
3. Install and set up. We mount the charger, connect it to the manufacturer's instructions, set the current limit to suit the circuit, and connect it to Wi-Fi if it has an app.
4. Test with your BYD. We test the installation to AS/NZS 3000, plug in your car to confirm it starts charging, and issue a Certificate of Compliance for Electrical Work.
Could be a scheduled charge set in the car, an app setting on the charger, or a tripped circuit. See EV charger tripping the breaker.
A sign the power point or its wiring isn't coping with long charging sessions. Stop using it and have it checked.
Some chargers need a reset or reconnect to Wi-Fi after an outage. See EV charger not working after a power outage.
Usually the current limit, a schedule in the car's settings, or the onboard charger itself setting the pace.
Any quality Type 2 charger will work. Pick based on whether you want solar charging, an app, or a tethered cable. Our charger guide walks through the options.
Not always. The smaller battery may recharge overnight from a portable cable, but it should be on a suitable, properly installed outlet. We can advise based on how far you drive.
Yes, either by charging during the day or with a charger that can follow surplus solar. Solar-matching chargers need extra measuring equipment at the switchboard.
No. We're an independent licensed electrician with no affiliation to BYD. We install the charger you choose and certify the electrical work.
Yes. Every installation is tested and you receive a Certificate of Compliance for Electrical Work under licence 332956C.
