Electrician for cafes and restaurants

In a cafe or restaurant, a tripped circuit isn't an inconvenience, it's lost trade. Fridges warm up, the coffee machine stops and the kitchen grinds to a halt. Electrical work has to fit around service.

Ring 0421 772 661 to talk about a fault or a fit-out. Blue Link Electrical is a licensed electrician based in Hurlstone Park, working with hospitality businesses across the Inner West and Sydney.

Why kitchens are different

Heavy loads in small spaces.

A commercial kitchen packs a lot of electrical load into a few square metres: espresso machines, combi ovens, fryers, dishwashers, refrigeration and extraction fans, often running at once. Many Inner West cafes are in older shopfronts that were wired for a very different use, and each new tenant has added equipment without looking at the whole installation.

The result is familiar: circuits shared by equipment that should be separate, a switchboard at its limit, and tripping that only happens at the busiest time of day. Some equipment is three-phase, so whether the premises has three-phase supply, and how much capacity is left, matters before you sign for new gear.

Common jobs

What hospitality businesses call about.

!

Tripping during service

Usually overloaded circuits, moisture in equipment or a faulty appliance. We trace it and separate loads where needed. See fault finding.

!

New equipment circuits

Dedicated circuits for coffee machines, ovens, dishwashers and cool rooms, sized from the equipment's rating plate.

!

Switchboard capacity

Checking the board and supply can carry new equipment, and upgrading where it can't.

!

Lighting

Dining room ambience, bright task lighting in the kitchen, signage and outdoor seating lights.

!

Exit and emergency lights

Replacing failed fittings. Our exit lighting guide covers the basics.

!

Test and tag

Portable appliances in busy kitchens take a beating. See test and tag in NSW.

Fit-outs

Opening or refitting a venue.

If you're taking over a lease, get the electrical looked at before you commit to an equipment list. We check the supply, switchboard and existing circuits and tell you what the space can carry, what needs upgrading, and what that means for your fit-out. Our shop fit-out electrical guide covers the planning in more detail.

Gas appliances, refrigeration plant and commercial exhaust systems each involve other licensed trades. We do the electrical side: power to the equipment, isolators, controls wiring for fans, and coordinating with the gasfitter, refrigeration technician and shopfitter so everything is connected in the right order.

Timing and paperwork

Work that fits your hours.

Where possible, we schedule work before opening, between services or on the day you're closed. Early-morning or after-close work can be arranged in advance. If a job needs the power off, we tell you how long for and plan it so refrigeration isn't off longer than necessary.

Invoices are made out to the business with an itemised description, and completed work comes with a Certificate of Compliance for Electrical Work where required, which is useful for your landlord and your insurer.

Questions

Common questions.

Why does my cafe trip the power at lunchtime?

Usually because the busiest period is when the most equipment runs together. Overloaded circuits, a faulty appliance or moisture are the common causes. A fault-finding visit identifies which.

Can my premises run three-phase equipment?

Only if it has three-phase supply with enough spare capacity. We check the supply and switchboard before you buy equipment.

Can you work outside trading hours?

Early-morning, after-close and closed-day work can be arranged in advance so service isn't interrupted.

Do you install gas equipment or cool rooms?

No. Gas work is for a licensed gasfitter and refrigeration work is for a refrigeration technician. We provide and connect the electrical supply and coordinate with them.

Are you licensed?

Yes. Blue Link Electrical holds NSW Electrical Contractor Licence 332956C and is fully insured.
