A Mercedes-Benz EV or plug-in hybrid deserves a charger installation that's as tidy as the car. We install wall chargers for Mercedes-Benz owners across the Inner West and Sydney, with the switchboard and wiring checked first.

Mercedes-Benz sells fully electric EQ models, such as the EQA, EQB, EQE and EQS, alongside plug-in hybrid versions of several of its petrol models. In Australia they use a Type 2 inlet for AC charging, so they'll charge from any quality Type 2 wall charger, whether that's a simple unit or one with solar and app features.
Many of the homes we see with these cars are larger Federation houses, renovated terraces or homes with a garage beneath the house. They often have one thing in common: the switchboard is a long way from the garage, and parts of the original wiring are still in service. Both shape the installation more than the choice of charger does.
Blue Link Electrical is a licensed electrician based in Hurlstone Park (NSW Contractor Licence 332956C). We're an independent electrician with no affiliation to Mercedes-Benz. We check the supply, plan a neat cable route, install and test the charger, and certify the work.
AC charging speed is limited by the car's onboard charger, which differs between models and between EQ and plug-in hybrid versions. Check your car's onboard charger rating in the owner's manual or the Mercedes me app before paying for a three-phase charger. If your property is single-phase, a single-phase charger is the sensible match regardless.
Most owners use the Mercedes me app or the car's settings to choose charge times and a maximum charge level, which lines up neatly with off-peak tariffs. If you have solar and want the car to use surplus during the day, choose a charger with a solar-following mode. Those chargers need current sensors at the switchboard or meter box, which we plan at the quote stage.
In older homes we look for ageing rubber or cloth-insulated cable and outdated fuse boards before adding a large new load. See old wiring in Inner West homes.
Ceramic fuses or a full board usually mean an upgrade before the charger circuit goes in.
Front-of-house switchboards and rear or under-house garages call for careful cable sizing and a concealed route.
A dedicated circuit with the RCD type the charger's manual specifies, plus overcurrent protection sized to the cable.
We mount the charger where the cable reaches the charge port comfortably and keep exposed conduit to a minimum.
1. Inspection. We check the switchboard, main supply, existing wiring and the route to the garage, then give you a written quote with any upgrade work listed separately.
2. Prepare the supply. If the board needs upgrading, that's done first so the new circuit has proper RCD protection and room to grow.
3. Install the charger. We run the dedicated circuit, mount the charger, connect it to the maker's instructions and set its current to suit the circuit.
4. Test and certify. We test to AS/NZS 3000, confirm your Mercedes-Benz charges, and issue a Certificate of Compliance for Electrical Work.
A common finding in older homes. A switchboard upgrade adds capacity and modern protection.
Often a charge limit or schedule in the car. If a safety switch has tripped, see EV charger tripping the breaker.
Can indicate a loose connection or an overloaded supply. See why are my lights flickering.
If the supply checks out, it may be an internal charger fault for the manufacturer's service network.
Any quality Type 2 wall charger. Choose based on features you want, such as solar charging, app control and cable type.
Usually, but the switchboard and the circuits it feeds need to be in safe condition first. We inspect before quoting.
Not always. The smaller battery may refill overnight from a portable cable on a dedicated outlet. We can advise based on your driving.
No. We're an independent licensed electrician with no connection to Mercedes-Benz. We install and certify the electrical work only.
It depends on the switchboard, the cable route and any upgrade work. We give a written quote first; our cost guide explains the main factors.
