Once a house or small office has more than a few data points, the modem, switch and NBN box need a proper home. A wall-mounted network cabinet gathers them in one ventilated, powered, labelled place instead of a tangle on the floor behind the TV.
Ring 0421 772 661. We install cabinets in Inner West homes, offices and businesses, and across Sydney.
A typical home or small-office cabinet holds the pieces that make the wired network work:
Every data point terminates here, numbered to match the wall plates.
Connects the data points; a PoE switch can also power access points and cameras.
Moved off the floor and connected to the NBN box with a short patch lead.
A dedicated power point or power rail inside or beside the cabinet, installed by a licensed electrician.
A vented door or fan, because switches and routers produce heat in a closed space.
Short patch leads and tidy routing so the cabinet stays easy to work in.
The best place is usually close to where the NBN connection enters the house, so the cabinet and the connection box sit together. In Inner West terraces that is often the hall, under the stairs or a laundry; in small offices it is a storeroom or a comms cupboard. The spot needs a power point, some airflow and enough room to open the door.
Avoid bathrooms, hot roof spaces and anywhere damp. If the obvious spot doesn't work, we can relocate the NBN connection point to a better location, within what NBN Co allows for your connection type.
For small commercial sites we size the cabinet for the current points plus room to grow, label everything to a simple scheme, and leave a record of which port goes where. If you have CCTV or an intercom, their recorders and PoE switches can live in the same cabinet. Cabling follows the ACMA cabling rules (AS/CA S009), and the power side is tested to AS/NZS 3000.
Most homes and small offices use a small wall-mount cabinet with space for a patch panel, a switch and a router, plus spare room. We size it to your points and equipment.
It needs reliable power for the switch and router. We install a power point or power rail for the cabinet as part of the job.
Often it can be relocated nearby, depending on your NBN connection type and NBN Co's rules. We'll check what is possible before planning around it.
Yes. A PoE switch in the cabinet can power cameras and access points, and the recorder can sit on a shelf in the same cabinet.
