Reclaim Energy is an Australian heat pump brand known for split systems that use CO2 as the refrigerant, with the heat pump unit outside and a separate storage tank. We do the electrical side of Reclaim installations across the Inner West and Sydney.

A heat pump water heater works like a reverse-cycle air conditioner in reverse: it pulls heat from the outside air and moves it into the water. Reclaim Energy's systems are split, so the outdoor heat pump unit and the tank are separate pieces connected by water pipes. That gives more freedom with placement, such as tank in one spot, heat pump unit where noise and airflow suit best.
CO2 refrigerant systems are generally known for performing well in cooler weather, which matters on winter mornings. They're a popular choice for people moving off gas or replacing an old electric storage heater, especially those with rooftop solar who want to heat water during the day.
Blue Link Electrical is a licensed electrician based in Hurlstone Park (NSW Contractor Licence 332956C). We handle the supply circuit, isolation, protection and testing. The plumbing, including tank connections, tempering valve and pipework, is a licensed plumber's job, and we're happy to work alongside yours.
Reclaim systems are sold with different tank sizes to suit household size. The heat pump unit and tank each have installation requirements in the manual, including clearances around the outdoor unit and the electrical supply it needs. Check the rating plate and installation manual for circuit requirements rather than going by the old system's circuit.
Because the heat pump unit is separate, think about where it will sit. It has a fan and compressor, so it makes some noise while running. Putting it near a bedroom window, yours or a neighbour's, is best avoided, and NSW noise rules can apply to equipment heard inside a neighbour's home at night. A timer to run it during the day sidesteps a lot of this.
The heat pump needs its own circuit from the switchboard, sized to the manufacturer's requirements, with suitable RCD or RCBO protection.
An isolator near the outdoor unit lets it be safely switched off for servicing.
Good airflow, clearances per the manual, a stable level base and away from bedroom windows where possible.
Off-peak or controlled-load circuits exist on many meters. Whether to use one depends on the system and your solar; see below.
Room for a new circuit and protection. Older ceramic fuse boards may need a switchboard upgrade.
We schedule with the plumber so the system isn't powered before it's filled with water.
1. Check and quote. We look at your switchboard, meter arrangement, existing hot water circuit and the planned positions for the tank and outdoor unit, then provide a written quote for the electrical work.
2. Circuit and isolation. We run or upgrade the circuit, fit protection at the switchboard and install an isolator at the outdoor unit. If you're on a controlled-load tariff, we'll discuss whether to keep using it or move to a timer-based setup that suits solar.
3. Connect after plumbing. Once the plumber has installed and filled the system, we connect the heat pump to the manufacturer's instructions.
4. Test and certify. The circuit is tested to AS/NZS 3000 and you get a Certificate of Compliance for Electrical Work. NSW energy-saving incentives may be available for heat pumps; check current eligibility before you buy. Our heat pump electrical guide explains more.
Moisture in a connection, a cable fault or an appliance fault. See heat pump tripping the safety switch.
It's on a controlled-load circuit that only switches on overnight. That may not suit solar owners. Changing it involves your retailer and the meter wiring, and we can explain the options.
Outdoor unit placed close to a neighbour's bedroom. A run timer during the day, or relocation, are the usual answers.
If the circuit is live, the fault is likely in the unit and goes to the manufacturer's service network.
Many can be connected to a controlled-load (off-peak) circuit, but that limits when it runs. With solar, a timer for daytime running is often better. Check the manufacturer's guidance for your model.
No. Plumbing is done by a licensed plumber. We handle the electrical circuit, isolation and testing, and can coordinate with your plumber.
NSW energy-saving incentives may be available for heat pump hot water. Check current eligibility with the program and supplier before you buy.
Sometimes, if it's suitable for the new unit and in good condition. We check against the manufacturer's requirements.
