Rheem is one of the best-known hot water names in Australia, and its heat pump range is a common pick when people replace an existing Rheem gas or electric unit. We handle the electrical work for Rheem heat pump installs across Sydney.
Call 0421 772 661 for a written quote. Let us know whether you're switching from gas, as that usually means a new circuit.
Rheem has been making water heaters in Australia for a long time, and plenty of households already have a Rheem storage tank or gas unit. Its heat pump models are mostly integrated designs, with the heat pump mounted on the tank, which keeps the installation footprint similar to a conventional storage unit.
The electrical scope depends on what you're replacing. Swapping from an electric storage heater often means checking and possibly upgrading the existing circuit. Swapping from gas usually means a brand-new circuit from the switchboard, which is where switchboard capacity and the cable route come into play.
Blue Link Electrical is a licensed electrician based in Hurlstone Park (NSW Contractor Licence 332956C). We do the supply circuit, protection, isolation and testing. A licensed plumber installs the unit and its water connections, and gas disconnection is a licensed gasfitter's job.
Rheem offers heat pumps in a few capacities, and some models include a booster element. The supply requirements are set out on the rating plate and in the installation manual, so check those before assuming your existing circuit will do. If the plan is to also go all-electric in the kitchen, it's worth thinking about overall switchboard and supply capacity at the same time.
Rheem has a broad service network, which helps with warranty and repairs of the unit itself. Our part is making sure the power supply is right, so if a fault does happen, it's clear whether it's the electrical side or the appliance.
From the switchboard to the unit, sized to Rheem's requirements and protected by an RCD or RCBO.
A gas unit had no heating circuit, so a new run from the switchboard is usually needed.
Fitted near the unit for safe servicing.
Outdoors with clearances for the fan, ideally not hard against a bedroom window.
Controlled-load tariffs exist on many Sydney meters and can suit heat pumps; daytime timers suit solar homes.
Going all-electric adds load. A switchboard upgrade may be needed on older boards.
1. Quote. We check the switchboard, any existing hot water circuit, the meter arrangement and the unit's new position, then give a written quote.
2. Power the location. We run a new or upgraded circuit and fit the protection and isolator. If gas is being removed, we coordinate timing with the gasfitter and plumber.
3. Connect. Once the unit is plumbed and full, we connect it to the manufacturer's instructions and set any timer or tariff arrangement.
4. Test and certify. We test to AS/NZS 3000 and supply a Certificate of Compliance for Electrical Work. NSW energy-saving incentives may be available for heat pumps; check current eligibility. See our heat pump guide.
Could be a wiring fault, water ingress or an internal fault. See heat pump tripping the safety switch.
Common when the old unit was smaller. The circuit should match the new unit's requirements.
Likely restricted run hours on controlled load. A tariff or timer change may help.
If our tests show supply at the unit, it's an appliance fault for Rheem's service network.
Usually a new dedicated circuit from the switchboard, protection and an isolator at the unit. We'll also check the switchboard has room.
Many heat pumps can use a controlled-load circuit, but check Rheem's guidance for your model. Daytime running can suit solar homes better.

No, we do the electrical installation. Your plumber or supplier provides and installs the unit itself.
