Thermorail heated towel rails are a familiar sight in Australian bathrooms. Most are best installed hard-wired, with a wall switch or timer, rather than with a cord trailing to a power point. We install them across the Inner West and Sydney.

A heated towel rail is a low-power electric heater shaped as a rail. Thermorail is an Australian brand with a range of designs and finishes for bathrooms and laundries. Rails like these run for long periods, so how they're connected and controlled matters for both safety and running costs.
Hard-wiring means the rail is connected to fixed wiring through a concealed connection, with a switch, timer or controller outside the wettest parts of the room. It looks tidier than a plug-in cord and removes a trip hazard. Bathrooms have rules about where electrical equipment can go relative to the bath and shower, so the position is planned before tiling where possible.
Blue Link Electrical is a licensed electrician based in Hurlstone Park (NSW Contractor Licence 332956C). We install Thermorail rails in new and existing bathrooms across the Inner West.
Some heated towel rails come with a plug for a power point; others are designed to be hard-wired. Even when a plug-in option exists, many people prefer hard-wiring in a bathroom because there's no visible cord and the control can be a neat wall switch or timer. The manufacturer's installation instructions say which connection methods suit each model, along with mounting heights and clearances.
Choose the control to match how you'll use it. A simple switch suits people who turn it on when they need it. A timer lets it warm towels before you get up and switch off automatically, which saves power. Some rails have built-in controls; check the product details. We'll also confirm the rail's IP rating suits where it's going.
Equipment near baths and showers must suit its location under AS/NZS 3000. We position the rail and controls so they comply.
Hard-wired rails connect via a concealed outlet behind or beside the rail. In renovations this goes in before tiling.
Located where it's easy to reach and outside the restricted areas around the bath and shower.
The circuit must be protected by an RCD. Older boards without one may need an upgrade.
Rails need secure fixing into studs, noggings or masonry. Hollow plasterboard alone isn't enough.
1. Plan. We agree the rail position and control type with you and your tiler or builder.
2. Rough-in. Cable and the concealed connection point go in before waterproofing and tiling, with noggings in place for fixing.
3. Fit-off. After tiling, we mount the rail, make the connection and install the switch or timer.
4. Test and certify. We test to AS/NZS 3000 and provide a Certificate of Compliance for Electrical Work where required. See lighting and power.
Could be the switch, timer settings, a tripped circuit or a rail fault. We test the supply; rail faults go to the manufacturer.
Moisture at a connection or a faulty element. See safety switch keeps tripping.
Untidy and a trip hazard. Converting to hard-wired often makes sense if the model allows it.
Fixed into plasterboard only. Re-fixing into structure is needed.
Hard-wired rails do. A plug-in rail can go into an existing power point, but the power point must suit its bathroom location.
Yes. A timer is a popular way to warm towels and limit running time.
Often yes, though concealing cable in a tiled wall can be harder. We'll look at options.
We install them. Buy the rail you want and we'll quote the electrical work.
