Westinghouse is one of the most familiar oven brands in Australian homes and rentals, so a lot of our Westinghouse work is replacement: the old oven has died and a new one needs to go into the same spot, on the same circuit, quickly and safely.
Ring 0421 772 661 for a written quote. A photo of the old oven's rating plate, the new model number and your switchboard lets us tell you if it's a straight swap.
Westinghouse belongs to the Electrolux group and sells built-in wall and under-bench ovens, freestanding upright cookers, and combination packages in electric, gas and dual-fuel forms. You'll find it in houses, apartments and investment properties everywhere, often installed by a builder years ago.
Replacement sounds simple, but the new oven isn't always electrically identical to the old one. A pyrolytic model, a larger cavity or an upright cooker with more elements can have a higher rating than what was there. If the existing cable and breaker were sized for the old appliance, or the wiring has deteriorated from years of heat behind the oven, a straight swap might not be safe.
Blue Link Electrical is a licensed electrician based in Hurlstone Park (NSW Contractor Licence 332956C). We install Westinghouse ovens and cookers across the Inner West and Sydney for owners, landlords and agents. We don't sell the appliances and aren't a Westinghouse service agent; repairs inside the oven go through the manufacturer.
Built-in ovens are sold in standard widths for wall and under-bench cavities, but the electrical connection differs between models. Some come with a plug for a standard outlet; others need a hard-wired connection on a dedicated circuit. If the old oven was hard-wired and the new one is plug-in, or the other way round, the connection point needs changing too.
Freestanding upright cookers combine the cooktop and oven in one appliance. All-electric versions carry a substantial combined load and are normally hard-wired. Gas and dual-fuel uprights need far less electrical capacity, but the gas connection is licensed gasfitting work. If you're moving from a gas upright to an electric one, expect circuit work, not just a swap.
We confirm the existing cable, breaker and terminations suit the new oven's rating before connecting it, particularly in older homes.
Plug-in ovens need a suitable outlet; hard-wired ones a proper connection point. We change it if the new model differs from the old.
An isolating switch you can reach with the oven in place. Many older installations have none, or one hidden behind the appliance.
Older boards often have no RCD on the cooking circuit. Adding safety switch protection is a worthwhile upgrade, especially in rentals.
The new oven must fit the existing cut-out; if it doesn't, a cabinetmaker adjusts it before we connect.
1. Compare old and new. We check both rating plates, the existing circuit and the switchboard, and let you know if it's a direct swap or needs upgrading first.
2. Remove the old oven. We isolate the circuit, disconnect and remove the old appliance, and inspect the cable and connection behind it for heat damage.
3. Connect the new oven. We fit or replace the connection point and isolator as needed, connect the new oven to the manufacturer's instructions and secure it in the cavity.
4. Test and document. The circuit is tested to AS/NZS 3000 and we issue a Certificate of Compliance for Electrical Work where required, which is handy for landlords' records. Our landlord electrician page covers rental work.
Can be the circuit, a damaged old cable or an appliance fault. We test to find out. See Westinghouse oven tripping power.
Years of heat can brittle the insulation near the connection. We replace the damaged section rather than reconnect to it.
Older installs often lack one. We add an accessible isolating switch so the oven can be safely serviced later.
Check the switchboard and isolator first. Our oven no power guide lists safe checks.
Detailed troubleshooting:
Often, if the new oven's rating suits the existing circuit and the wiring is in good condition. We check before connecting.
We disconnect and remove it from the cavity. Let us know when booking if you need disposal arranged.
Yes. We work with landlords and agents and can coordinate access with tenants. You'll receive compliance paperwork for the electrical work.
Yes, but it usually needs a new dedicated circuit. A gasfitter caps off the old gas supply.
