Homes and electrical work in the North Shore
The North Shore runs from apartment towers around North Sydney and St Leonards to large, leafy blocks in Ku-ring-gai and Hornsby. At the 2021 Census, 75.7% of homes in North Sydney were flats or apartments, while Ku-ring-gai was 68.6% separate houses and Hornsby 69.5%. In Ku-ring-gai, 40.2% of homes were owned outright, and the median age was 42.
Older, larger houses on the upper North Shore often have long cable runs, outbuildings, pool equipment and garden lighting added over decades, so faults can be spread out and hard to trace. Tall trees mean storm damage to overhead service lines and outdoor fittings after high winds. Closer to the harbour, more of the work is in apartments and strata buildings, where access and approvals come first.

Stay well away and keep others back. Call Ausgrid on 13 13 88 for anything involving the street lines or the line to your house. Once the supply is safe, we can repair damage on your side of the connection point.
Can you find a fault that comes and goes?
Yes. Intermittent trips are often outdoor circuits, garden lighting or an appliance. We test circuits in turn, starting with the ones exposed to weather, rather than replacing parts on a guess.
