Homes and electrical work in the Ryde & Northern Suburbs
Ryde and Hunters Hill sit between the North Shore and the Parramatta River. At the 2021 Census, the City of Ryde was 40.8% separate houses and 44.6% flats or apartments. Hunters Hill was 61.9% separate houses, 40.3% of homes were owned outright, and its median age of 46 was among the highest in Sydney.
Hunters Hill has a large share of heritage-listed and older sandstone homes, where wiring has often been replaced in stages and switchboards are small. In Ryde, the post-war brick houses of Eastwood, Denistone and West Ryde often still have their original boards and too few power points for modern kitchens, home offices and air conditioning. In the newer towers, most work is inside the unit.
The poles, wires and meters here are run by Ausgrid. For street outages or fallen lines call Ausgrid on 13 13 88. Service-line and metering work is Level 2 work, which we refer to an Accredited Service Provider; we work on your side of the meter.

Common questions
My post-war house has only a few power points. Can you add more?
Yes. We check whether the existing circuits can take extra load, then add points or a new circuit as needed. Brick walls take more planning, but most rooms can be done neatly.
Do heritage homes need special electrical work?
The rules for the wiring are the same, but we take care with cable routes, original ceilings and joinery, and keep visible changes to a minimum. External changes can need council approval.
Who do I call for a power outage?
Ausgrid, on 13 13 88.
Can you add a circuit for a new split system?
Yes. Most split systems need a dedicated circuit and an isolator next to the outdoor unit. We check the switchboard has room and that the supply can carry the extra load first.
