Homes and electrical work in the Northern Beaches
The Northern Beaches are mostly houses. At the 2021 Census, 57.3% of homes in the Northern Beaches council area were separate houses, 33.4% flats or apartments and 8.8% semis or townhouses. Households averaged 1.8 motor vehicles per dwelling and the median age was 41.
Two things shape the electrical work here. Along the coast from Manly to Palm Beach, salt air corrodes outdoor fittings, meter boxes and exposed terminals. Inland and on the western side, many homes back onto bushland, and bushfire-prone land has its own building rules for extensions and new work. Houses with garages and driveways also make the Beaches a practical place for home EV charging.
The poles, wires and meters here are run by Ausgrid. For street outages or fallen lines call Ausgrid on 13 13 88. Service-line and metering work is Level 2 work, which we refer to an Accredited Service Provider; we work on your side of the meter.

Common questions
Is my switchboard ready for solar or a battery?
It depends on space, the age of the board and whether every circuit has safety switch protection. We can check it and tell you what, if anything, needs to change before your solar installer starts.
Do outdoor fittings need anything special near the ocean?
Use fittings rated for outdoor use and suited to coastal conditions, sealed properly and checked from time to time. Corroded fittings should be replaced, not cleaned and refitted.
Who handles outages on the Northern Beaches?
Ausgrid, on 13 13 88.
Can I add power to a garage, studio or pool area?
Yes. Outbuildings and pool areas need their own sub-circuit with safety switch protection, run in cable suited to being underground or outdoors. Pool equipment also has specific bonding and clearance rules, which we follow and certify.
