Clipsal is best known for switches and power points, and it also makes LED downlights. Many people choose them so the lights and dimmers come from the same family. We install them across the Inner West and Sydney.

Clipsal, part of Schneider Electric, is one of the most familiar names in Australian electrical fittings. Its switch ranges such as Iconic and Saturn are in a huge number of homes, and Clipsal also offers LED downlights and dimmers designed for LED loads.
The appeal of pairing Clipsal downlights with Clipsal dimmers is that compatibility information is easier to find. It's still worth checking, though. Not every dimmer suits every driver or every number of lights, and the installation sheet is what settles it.
Blue Link Electrical is a licensed electrician in Hurlstone Park, NSW Contractor Licence 332956C. We install Clipsal downlights, dimmers and switches in houses and units across the Inner West, from single rooms to whole-home relights during renovations.
If you're also updating switch plates, it can make sense to plan lights and switches as one job. A dimmer mechanism in the same range as your other switches looks consistent, and a modern LED dimmer avoids the buzz and flicker that old rotary dimmers often cause with LEDs. If you'd like app or voice control later, Clipsal's Wiser smart range is another option worth considering at the planning stage.
As with any downlight, check the cut-out, the insulation rating and whether the fitting offers selectable colour temperature. Our LED downlight buying guide explains brightness and colour, and the Clipsal Iconic switches page covers the switch side.
The dimmer must suit the LED driver and the number of lights on it. We check the minimum and maximum load before fitting.
Some dimmer mechanisms are deeper than a basic switch. Older walls with shallow mounting may need a different mounting arrangement.
The fitting's rating decides whether insulation can sit over it. We keep clearances where needed.
We follow the specified hole size and reuse existing holes where they match.
Lighting circuits should be protected by a safety switch. If your board lacks one, we'll explain the options.
1. Plan lights and switches. We work out positions, which lights share a dimmer, and whether existing switch plates are being replaced too.
2. Ceiling work. Holes are cut to size, cable runs go in from the roof space and old halogen transformers are removed.
3. Fit-off. Downlights, drivers and dimmers are connected. Where the dimmer allows adjustment, we set the minimum level so the lights don't flicker at low settings.
4. Test and certify. We test to AS/NZS 3000 and issue a Certificate of Compliance for Electrical Work where required. See our downlight installation service.
Leftover dimmers from halogen days are the most common cause of flicker. See dimmer switch buzzing.
Exceeding the dimmer's rating makes it run hot or behave erratically. Splitting the load fixes it.
Often a minimum-level setting or a non-dimmable fitting mixed in with dimmable ones.
Loose connections at old switches or junctions. We trace and fix them with proper terminations.
No, but you do need a dimmer that suits the driver. Same-brand pairing simply makes compatibility easier to confirm.
Yes. Doing lights and switches in one visit is usually tidier and avoids a second trip.
Standard downlights can be controlled by a smart dimmer such as one from Clipsal's Wiser range, provided the dimmer suits the driver.
We install and wire them. Choose your fittings and we'll quote the installation.
