Hager is a European switchgear maker whose enclosures, breakers and RCBOs are common in Australian homes. We've replaced old boards with Hager equipment in the Inner West, including a switchboard upgrade in Annandale.
Ring 0421 772 661 to talk through your board. Send a photo and we can usually tell you what's involved before we visit.
Hager boards are known for a tidy, well-organised layout: the enclosure, DIN rail and busbar parts are designed to work together, which makes for a neat finish and a board that's easy to read. That matters when you or the next electrician need to find which circuit has tripped in a hurry.
Hager suits a full replacement of an old fuse board, a renovation where circuits are being added, or a home that needs every circuit on its own RCBO so one fault doesn't black out half the house. The Annandale job was a classic example: an older terrace board swapped for a modern Hager board with proper safety switch protection.
Blue Link Electrical is a licensed electrician based in Hurlstone Park, holding NSW Contractor Licence 332956C. We design the board around your circuits, install it, test it and issue a Certificate of Compliance.
The main decision is enclosure size and the protection scheme. A flush-mounted enclosure sits into the wall for a cleaner look indoors; a surface-mounted one suits meter boxes and garages. Inside, you can group circuits under shared RCDs, or give each circuit its own RCBO. Individual RCBOs cost more but isolate faults, so a tripping kettle doesn't take the fridge with it.
Hager parts are designed to fit Hager enclosures and busbars, so we keep the board within one system rather than mixing brands on the same rail. Exact parts depend on the current range, your circuit loads and the space available. We'll specify them in the quote and you can ask about any line item.
Hallway boards in terraces are often recessed into thin walls. We check the cavity depth and fixings before choosing flush or surface mount.
We plan which circuits get which protection, and explain the trade-off in our RCD vs RCBO guide.
Space for future air conditioning, induction cooking, an EV charger or solar, so a later upgrade doesn't mean another new board.
Insulation tests on every circuit before change-over, because perished rubber or water damage will trip new protection.
Where the supply must be isolated upstream of the board, we coordinate that with the network as part of the work.
1. Survey. We map the existing circuits, check the main earth and consumer mains, and note what you plan to add over the next few years.
2. Build and install. On the day, power is isolated, the old board is removed and the Hager enclosure is fitted. Circuits are terminated on their new breakers or RCBOs and neatly dressed.
3. Test and label. Insulation resistance, polarity, earth continuity and RCD trip tests on every circuit. Each circuit is labelled so you can find it later.
4. Certify. You receive a CCEW for the work. If you're also considering a battery later, see solar and battery ready switchboards.
Points to that circuit or something plugged into it, not the whole board. See Hager RCBO tripping.
Old appliances with small leakage, or shared neutrals between circuits, show up once each circuit has its own RCBO. We trace and separate them.
Earlier compact boards can run out of space. Adding a sub-board or upsizing the enclosure are both options.
Loose terminations or overloaded circuits. Turn off and call us if you notice heat, a burning smell or scorching.
Detailed troubleshooting:
Yes. One example is our Hager switchboard upgrade in Annandale, replacing an older board with modern protection.
It's not essential everywhere, but it reduces the impact of a fault. We'll give you options with and without individual RCBOs.
Yes, if spare spaces are left. That's why we size the enclosure with room for future circuits.
Usually only for part of the day while the change-over happens. We'll agree timing with you, including for fridges and medical equipment.
No. We're an independent licensed electrician (NSW 332956C) who installs Hager equipment. Product warranty is with the manufacturer; our workmanship is ours.
