Kia's electric SUVs carry big batteries, and big batteries are easiest to live with when you can refill them at home overnight. We install wall chargers for Kia owners across the Inner West and Sydney.
Ring 0421 772 661 for a written quote. Send a photo of your switchboard and where the car lives, whether that's a garage, carport or rear-lane space.
Kia's EV line-up in Australia covers everything from the compact Niro EV and EV3 to the EV5, EV6 and the seven-seat EV9. They all charge at home through a Type 2 inlet, so you can use any quality Type 2 wall charger. The difference between them is mainly battery size, which affects how long a full charge takes on a home circuit.
That's why a wall charger is so useful with the larger Kias. A portable cable in a power point can take a very long time to fill an EV9 from low, while a dedicated wall charger fits most top-ups into one off-peak overnight window.
Blue Link Electrical is a licensed electrician based in Hurlstone Park (NSW Contractor Licence 332956C). We're independent and have no affiliation with Kia. We look after the electrical work: supply check, circuit, charger installation, testing and the compliance certificate.
Plenty of Inner West houses have the switchboard at the front and parking at the back, off a rear lane, with a terrace or cottage in between. That makes the cable route the biggest part of the job. We'll look at whether it's best through the roof space, under the floor or along the side of the house, and price it honestly. Detached rear garages may need their own sub-board if other circuits are planned there too.
On the car side, check your Kia's onboard charger rating in the owner's manual before deciding on three-phase. Use the Kia Connect app or the car's settings to schedule charging into off-peak hours, or charge in the middle of the day if you have solar. If you'd like the charger to follow your solar output automatically, choose a charger with a solar mode and we'll fit the measuring equipment it needs.
Sized for the charger and the distance. Long rear-lane runs may need heavier cable to keep voltage drop in check.
Room for a new circuit with suitable RCD protection. Older boards may need an upgrade.
If the garage already has power, we check whether the existing sub-circuit can be used or whether a new run is needed.
We check where your Kia's charge port is and how you reverse or drive in, so the cable reaches without crossing walkways.
Chargers and cables in shared or tight spaces need positioning or guarding so they aren't knocked by bins, bikes or bumpers.
1. Plan the route. We inspect the switchboard, the parking space and the path between them, then quote the charger position and cable route in writing.
2. Cabling. The circuit is installed and the cable run, concealed where the building allows, mechanically protected where it's exposed.
3. Charger installed. We fix the charger to solid structure, connect and configure it, and link it to Wi-Fi if it's a smart model.
4. Test and certify. We test to AS/NZS 3000, check your Kia charges, and issue a Certificate of Compliance for Electrical Work.
Expected on a portable cable. On a wall charger, check the current setting, the car's charge limit and any schedule.
An older garage sub-circuit may not handle a charger on top of existing loads. A separate circuit is usually the fix.
Can be the charger, the car, moisture or wiring. See EV charger tripping the breaker.
Typically Wi-Fi range at the back of the block. A mesh node or network cable often solves it.
For most owners, yes. The battery is large, and a wall charger makes it practical to refill overnight instead of relying on a portable cable.
Usually, yes. The cost depends on the cable route from the switchboard. We'll look and quote the most practical way.
Some Kia models can power appliances directly from the car. That's separate from home charging and shouldn't be connected into house wiring.
No. We're an independent licensed electrician with no affiliation to Kia. We install the charger you choose and certify the electrical work.
