HPM is a long-standing Australian electrical brand, now part of the French Legrand group, and you'll find HPM switchboards and breakers in plenty of Sydney homes. We install and upgrade Legrand HPM switchboards across the Inner West and Sydney.
Ring 0421 772 661 for a written quote. If you already have HPM switches and power points, mention it; some people like the board to match.
Many Inner West homes already have HPM somewhere: an older board added to in the 1990s, HPM switches in the hallway, or a few HPM breakers added during a kitchen job. When those boards need more circuits or proper safety switch protection, the question is whether to extend what's there or start again.
Our answer depends on the condition of the board. If the enclosure is sound, has space and the parts are still compatible, adding RCBOs can be enough. If it's crowded, has mixed brands on the same rail, or still has ceramic fuses alongside the newer parts, a fresh Legrand HPM board is usually cleaner and easier to maintain.
Blue Link Electrical is a licensed electrician based in Hurlstone Park (NSW Contractor Licence 332956C). We'll tell you which option makes sense, quote it in writing and test everything before we leave.
Extending an existing board is cheaper on the day, but only works when there's physical space, a busbar or wiring arrangement that suits the new devices, and the rest of the board is in good order. We also check that the main switch and consumer mains can handle whatever you're adding.
A replacement Legrand HPM board lets us lay the circuits out logically, put each one under suitable RCD or RCBO protection, and leave spare spaces. Parts are chosen to suit the enclosure and each other; we don't mix brands on one rail. If you're unsure, our signs you need a switchboard upgrade guide is a good starting point.
We check for heat damage, loose connections, asbestos-containing backing panels in older meter boxes, and old rewireable fuses.
New devices have to suit the existing enclosure and busbar if we're extending. If they don't, replacement is the safer path.
We plan safety switch coverage for every final circuit, not just power points. See safety switch rules in NSW.
Many older homes have the switchboard inside the meter box. We work within the space and network requirements.
Kitchen, laundry and air conditioning upgrades all want their own circuits. Spare room now saves money later.
1. Inspection. We open the board (safely), identify each circuit, and assess whether extending or replacing is the better value.
2. Written options. Where both are viable, we quote both, so you can compare the cost and the long-term result.
3. Installation. The work is done with the supply isolated, circuits terminated and labelled, and old fuses or redundant parts removed.
4. Test and certify. Every circuit tested to AS/NZS 3000, every safety switch trip-tested, and a CCEW issued for the work.
Breakers from different makers fitted together over the years. It can cause poor connections; we standardise the board.
A single RCD covering many circuits means one fault blacks out a lot. Splitting protection fixes it.
Some HPM boards still carry ceramic fuses for a few circuits. See ceramic fuse replacement.
Often an RCD that tripped and was missed. Check our power out in part of the house guide.
Sometimes. It depends on space, compatibility and the board's condition. We'll check and tell you honestly.
HPM is an Australian brand within the Legrand group. You'll see both names on current products.
Not usually. A switchboard upgrade doesn't require new switches, although faults in fittings sometimes show up once RCDs are added.
Heat, scorch marks, a burning smell, buzzing or ceramic fuses are all reasons to get it looked at. Turn off at the main switch if you see scorching.
