Homes and electrical work in the Eastern Suburbs
The Eastern Suburbs mix beachside apartment blocks, Federation and inter-war houses, and Paddington's terraces. At the 2021 Census, flats and apartments made up 64.1% of homes in Waverley, 55.5% in Randwick and 55.6% in Woollahra. Separate houses were 26.8% in Randwick and 22.3% in Woollahra. Almost half of Waverley's homes (49.0%) were rented.
Near the coast, salt air is hard on outdoor electrical fittings. Light fittings, outdoor power points and switchboard enclosures on exposed walls in Bondi, Bronte, Coogee, Clovelly and Maroubra corrode faster, so we use weather-rated fittings and check older outdoor gear when we are on site. Inland, in Randwick, Kensington and Paddington, older houses and terraces often still have original wiring and switchboards that were never designed for air conditioning, induction cooking or an EV charger.

Common questions
Why do outdoor fittings near the beach fail sooner?
Salt spray settles on fittings and terminals and speeds up corrosion. Weather-rated fittings in suitable materials, correct sealing and the right position on the wall all help them last longer.
Can I get an EV charger in an Eastern Suburbs apartment?
Often, yes, but in a strata building the charger connects to the building's supply in a shared car park, so the owners corporation must approve it first. We can provide the load and cable route details the committee asks for.
