Qasair rangehood installation

Qasair is an Australian brand known for solid, heavy-duty hoods, with options for mounting the motor away from the hood. We look after the power to the hood and, where needed, to a remote motor.

Call 0421 772 661 for a written quote. Send the model, a kitchen photo and, if it has a remote motor, where you'd like it mounted.

Qasair

Qasair Rangehood installation.

Qasair hoods tend to appeal to people who cook a lot: wok cooking, big gas burners, or wide freestanding cookers that need strong extraction. The range includes canopy, undermount, island and built-in styles, and some installations put the motor in the roof space or outside to cut kitchen noise.

A hood with its motor on board is the straightforward case, with an outlet hidden in the canopy or cupboard. A remote-motor setup adds wiring between the hood and the motor location, and that run has to follow the manufacturer's instructions for cable and isolation. We plan it from the installation manual for the exact model you've bought.

Blue Link Electrical is a licensed electrician in Hurlstone Park (NSW Contractor Licence 332956C), installing rangehoods across the Inner West and Sydney. We don't sell Qasair products and aren't affiliated with the brand. Ducting, gas connections and appliance repairs are handled by the relevant trade or the manufacturer.

Know your model

Motor on board, or mounted remotely.

For an on-board motor, the job is mostly about outlet position and fixing: heavy-duty hoods are bigger and heavier, so the wall or ceiling fixing needs to be solid, and the outlet must sit where the hood's body and duct won't cover it. Island versions bring the supply down from the ceiling inside the chimney.

With a remote motor, decide the motor position before anything else. In a single-storey cottage the roof space is often workable; in a terrace or under a second floor the route may be longer or need an external wall. The motor location dictates the cable run, the access needed for servicing, and where isolation goes.

Before we install

What the installation needs.

!

Supply at the hood

An outlet or hard-wired connection in the canopy or cupboard, as the manual specifies.

!

Remote motor wiring

Where fitted, cable from hood to motor per the manufacturer's instructions, with isolation at the motor for servicing.

!

Solid fixing

Heavier hoods need firm fixing to studs, joists or added framing, arranged with your builder.

!

Safety switch

The circuit must be RCD protected. Kitchens on old fuse boards may need an upgrade.

!

Gas and ducting by others

A licensed gasfitter connects gas cookers; ducting is a ventilation or building trade.

How it works

How we install it.

1. Plan the layout. We go through the manual, hood position, motor position (if remote) and cable route, and confirm the switchboard and safety switch situation.

2. Rough-in. Supply to the hood and, where needed, cable to the motor location, before walls, ceilings and cabinetry close up.

3. Connect and test. After mounting and ducting, we connect the hood and motor, test all speeds and the lighting, and test to AS/NZS 3000. New wiring is certified with a Certificate of Compliance for Electrical Work.

4. Example. Our Dulwich Hill rangehood installation shows a typical neat kitchen finish.

Common problems

Common Qasair problems.

!

Remote motor silent

Check the motor isolator is on. Beyond that, it may be the control cable or the motor itself; we test the wiring to find out.

!

Outlet hidden behind the hood

Big hoods can cover an outlet set for a smaller one. We relocate it so it can still be reached.

!

Trips with the cooktop on

Usually a shared or overloaded circuit, or moisture in a connection. See safety switch keeps tripping.

!

Hood dead

Start with the switchboard and outlet. See rangehood not working.

Questions

Qasair Rangehood: common questions.

Can you wire a Qasair hood with a remote motor?

Yes. We wire the hood and the motor per the manufacturer's instructions. Mounting the motor and ducting are by other trades.

Is a heavy-duty hood a bigger electrical job?

Not much, electrically. The bigger differences are fixing, ducting and, for remote motors, the extra cable run.

Do you connect gas cooktops?

No. Gas is a licensed gasfitter's work. We do the hood and any electrical supply for the cooker.

Can I move the motor outside later?

Possibly, if the model supports it. It means new wiring and ducting, so it's easier to decide at the start.

Are you licensed?

Yes. NSW Electrical Contractor Licence 332956C, fully insured.
