Robinhood rangehood installation

Robinhood is an Australian brand that has specialised in kitchen ventilation for a long time, so its range is deep: undermount, slide-out, canopy, island and integrated hoods. We wire and connect them.

Robinhood

Robinhood Rangehood installation.

Because Robinhood focuses on rangehoods rather than a full kitchen suite, people often pick it for a specific need: a hood sized to a wide cooktop, a quieter fan, or a particular style that suits the cabinetry. That variety means there isn't one standard installation; the outlet position and connection depend on which type you've chosen.

Most Robinhood hoods for home kitchens are designed to plug into a standard outlet, but read your installation manual to confirm. If the brand option you pick uses a motor mounted away from the hood, the manual will show the extra wiring involved, and we plan for it at quote stage rather than on the day.

Blue Link Electrical is a licensed electrician in Hurlstone Park (NSW Contractor Licence 332956C). We install and connect Robinhood hoods for homeowners, renovators and landlords across the Inner West and Sydney. We don't sell the hoods and aren't a Robinhood service agent; internal faults go to the manufacturer.

Know your model

Choosing the type shapes the wiring.

Undermount and slide-out hoods fix under a cupboard, with the outlet inside that cupboard. Canopy hoods mount to the wall with a chimney that hides the outlet and duct. Island hoods hang over a cooktop on an island bench and need power from the ceiling. Integrated hoods sit inside custom cabinetry, which means the cabinetmaker's drawings decide where the outlet can go.

Width and extraction capacity are the usual reasons to choose one Robinhood over another. Those don't change the electrical work much, since hoods are a light load, but bigger hoods and ceiling-hung models put more emphasis on fixing and access. Check the minimum height above your cooktop before cabinetry is ordered.

Before we install

What the installation needs.

!

Outlet in the right cupboard or chimney zone

Hidden but reachable for unplugging, and clear of heat from the cooktop.

!

RCD protection

The power circuit should be protected by a safety switch; older kitchens may need one added.

!

Ceiling access for island hoods

A cable route through the ceiling space and a hidden outlet inside the chimney.

!

Any remote motor wiring

If your chosen model uses a separately mounted motor, the manual specifies the cable and isolation between hood and motor.

!

Ducting by others

Duct runs and wall or roof penetrations are a separate trade.

How it works

How we install it.

1. Quote. We review the model, the manual and the kitchen layout, and price any outlet relocation, ceiling run or added safety switch.

2. Prepare the supply. We position the outlet (or a hard-wired connection with isolation) before cabinetry and splashback go in, where possible.

3. Connect and check. Once the hood is fixed and ducted, we connect it, test fan speeds and lights, and test the circuit to AS/NZS 3000. A Certificate of Compliance for Electrical Work covers any new wiring.

4. See a real job. Our rangehood installation in Dulwich Hill shows the clean finish we aim for. Planning a full kitchen? See our kitchen electrical checklist.

Common problems

Common Robinhood problems.

!

Hood works on one speed only

Usually the hood's switch or control, a manufacturer matter. We confirm the supply is sound first.

!

Outlet loose or discoloured

Heat and grease near a cooktop wear outlets. We replace them and reposition if they're too close.

!

Safety switch trips

We test to tell house wiring from appliance fault. See safety switch keeps tripping.

!

No power to the hood

Check the switchboard and outlet switch. Our rangehood not working guide covers safe checks.

Questions

Robinhood Rangehood: common questions.

Do Robinhood rangehoods plug in?

Many household models do, into a standard outlet. Check your manual, as some installations call for a hard-wired connection.

Can you replace an old hood with a Robinhood?

Yes. We disconnect the old hood, check the outlet and wiring, and connect the new one.

Who fits the ducting?

Your builder, cabinetmaker or a ventilation installer. We handle the power.

Do you install island hoods?

Yes, the electrical side, including the ceiling cable run. Fixing to the structure is coordinated with your builder.

Are you licensed?

Yes. NSW Electrical Contractor Licence 332956C, fully insured, based in Hurlstone Park.
