The Zappi from myenergi is popular with EV owners who have solar, because it can charge the car from surplus solar instead of sending it back to the grid. We install Zappi chargers across the Inner West and Sydney.

A Zappi is a wall-mounted home EV charger. Like any hard-wired charger, it needs its own circuit from the switchboard, sized to the charger and protected properly, and a cable route to wherever the car parks.
What makes the Zappi different is how it works with solar. Depending on the mode you choose, it can charge at full speed, charge only from surplus solar, or blend solar and grid power. To do that, it needs to measure power flowing to and from the grid, so the installation includes a current clamp (CT) at the switchboard or meter box, and sometimes on the solar inverter circuit as well.
Blue Link Electrical is a licensed electrician based in Hurlstone Park (NSW Contractor Licence 332956C). We check your switchboard and supply first, install the circuit and charger, set up the CT clamps, and test everything before we leave.
Zappi chargers come in single-phase and three-phase versions, and as tethered (with a fixed cable) or untethered (you plug in your own cable). Most Inner West homes are single-phase, which suits the single-phase model. If your property already has three-phase power, the three-phase version can charge faster, but only if your car's onboard charger supports it. Check the exact model and its installation manual before buying.
If you want solar charging, the CT clamp positions matter as much as the charger itself. Placing them correctly, at the grid connection and, where needed, the inverter output, is what lets the Zappi tell when there's surplus solar. We plan this at the quote stage, especially in older homes where the meter box and switchboard are in different places.
The charger runs on its own circuit from the switchboard, with cable sized for the charger's current and the length of the run.
There needs to be room for a new circuit with suitable protection. Older ceramic fuse boards usually need an upgrade first.
A home charger draws heavy current for hours. We check what else runs at the same time, such as air conditioning, an oven or a heat pump, so the supply isn't overloaded.
For solar charging, CT clamps are fitted at the grid connection (and sometimes the inverter) and linked back to the charger.
Close to where the car parks, protected from knocks, with the cable able to reach the car's charge port comfortably.
App control and remote monitoring need the charger connected via the myenergi hub or network setup. It's not needed for basic charging.
1. Quote. We look at your switchboard, meter box, solar setup and parking spot, then give you a written quote. Photos are often enough to start.
2. Circuit and charger. We run the dedicated circuit, fit the protection at the switchboard, mount the Zappi and connect it to the manufacturer's installation instructions.
3. CT clamps and settings. We fit and position the CT clamps for solar diversion, then check the charger reads grid import/export correctly. We'll show you the charging modes.
4. Test and certify. The circuit is tested to AS/NZS 3000 and you receive a Certificate of Compliance for Electrical Work. Our recent EV charger job in Lilyfield shows a typical neat garage installation.
Often a CT clamp in the wrong position or reading the wrong direction, or simply not enough surplus solar at that moment. See Zappi not charging.
Can point to a wiring fault, the wrong type of protection, or a fault in the charger or car. See Zappi tripping the safety switch.
Charging while big appliances run can overload an older supply. Load management settings or a switchboard upgrade fix it.
Usually a Wi-Fi or hub issue rather than an electrical fault. Charging can still work without it.
Detailed troubleshooting:
Yes, in its solar-only mode it waits for surplus solar and charges with that. It needs correctly installed CT clamps to measure what your home is exporting.
No. Most Inner West homes are single-phase and use the single-phase Zappi. Three-phase only helps if your property already has it and your car can use it.
Often, but older boards may need an upgrade first. We check the board, supply and other big loads before we quote.
Yes. Send us the model details and we'll quote the installation. We install and wire the charger; product warranty is handled by the manufacturer.
Yes. Blue Link Electrical holds NSW Electrical Contractor Licence 332956C, is fully insured, and issues a Certificate of Compliance for the installation.
