Old wiring in a terrace, semi or Federation cottage? We rewire older Inner West homes, in full or in stages, with as little damage to plaster, cornices and floors as possible.

Much of the Inner West was built between the 1880s and 1930s. Over the decades many of these homes have been partly rewired, extended and renovated, so it is common to find several generations of wiring in one house, some of it well past its use-by date.
Old rubber-insulated cable becomes brittle and can crumble when it is disturbed. Early plastic cable, overloaded circuits and DIY joins hidden in the roof are other common finds.
Our guide to old wiring in Inner West terraces and Federation homes goes into more detail.
Brittle insulation is a shock and fire risk.
Often a sign the wiring behind them is just as old.
Loose connections or overloaded circuits.
Stop using them and get them checked.
Lots of power boards and double adaptors.
The best time to rewire is before the walls are closed up.
1. Inspection. We check the existing wiring, the switchboard and what you want from each room, then give you a written quote.
2. A plan for your home. In terraces we work through the roof space and under floors where we can, to keep cutting into walls to a minimum. We talk you through where any patching will be needed before we start.
3. Full or staged. You can rewire the whole house at once, or in stages to suit a renovation or budget.
4. Tested and certified. All new work is done to AS/NZS 3000, tested, and a Certificate of Compliance for Electrical Work is issued.
The size of the house, access to the roof and subfloor, how many points you want, and whether the switchboard is upgraded at the same time all affect the price. We give you a written quote after an inspection.
